We're coming up on the one-year anniversary of our Disney trip and I am already itching to go again. I think we'd probably aim for early March again, as it worked out well for us. I for sure would like to go in 2021 or 2022. I was leaning towards 2021 if possible (sooner rather than later but need to get DH on board). However, then I heard that 2021 is Disney's 50th anniversary year, and some people are saying to avoid the entire year??? That seems crazy.
Kids would be 12, 10, 8 and 6 if we went next spring, which seemed like really fun ages to me. I thought we might still catch a little of the princess magic more than if we waited another year.

No dates for the 50th have been announced yet. I would expect more going on for the 50th in the spring of 2022 than the spring of 2021.
Oct 1 is the official day, but many predict the celebration will be for at least 12 months. Some think it could start in the summer but not sure how many are predicted things to start by spring of 2021.
I don’t think you need to avoid all of 2021. If spring 2021 is WHBM you want to go, go for it.
I would go when it's convenient for your family and ignore all of the dire predictions about 50th anniversary crowds. Case in point: the Disneyland Galaxy's Edge opening apocalypse was the exact opposite of that because so many people decided to delay their trips to avoid crowds that there weren't really any crowds.

If the castle is something that is important and a must see, you might want to wait until 2022. They announced that they will be doing something to the castle for the 50th but more information hasn't been released yet. When they had the 25th anniversary, they turned the castle into an ugly ass, pepto bismol pink 'birthday cake' and it looked hideous. Hopefully they will just be sprucing it up with a new paint job. But depending on what they do and when they will start the official 50th celebration; there is a small chance that there might be scaffolding or a no see green barricade around the castle sometime next spring/summer.

I remember being in high school and going with my family during the pink castle phase. It was no artistic marvel but it’s funny to think about it 25 years later. I like to YOLO and would plan for sooner than later. DD has just turned 6 on our last trip and the princess magic was no longer her passion like it was at 5 and 3.5.

Totally agree. I’m so glad I took my kids at 3-5 but every age is fun in its own way.
