If your kid vomited after dose 1 of Tamiflu, would you discontinue or keep giving it?
The doctor said I could discontinue if the symptoms seemed worse than the help, but it’s only been one dose (it was awful, though...ALL over my bed, him, me, the floor...ugh). Just one bout of vomiting, but it was a lot.
We are due to leave for Disney World in five days so I would really like to continue it to speed his recovery and lessen the chance of the rest of us getting it, but I don’t want to put his little body through more stress if he can’t tolerate anti-virals. He is newly 2.
Did you give it to him straight? The smell of it made me nauseous; taking it as is seems dreadful. I mixed it with chocolate syrup. My kid ate it with no complaints. I’ve read that chocolate covers the flavor best.

We made it 5 days of a 10 day rx. His brother had the flu and DS2 was given it as a preventive. We stopped because the stomach problems were too much. DS1 had no side effects so he did the whole rx.
We are dealing with the same thing over here krystee! If it makes you feel any better, G had vomiting and nausea with doses 1 and 2, but no issues with dose 3.. and hopefully not dose 4 (he vomited and had nausea within 1-2 hours after the first two).
With my kid's history, the doc really wanted him to take it. I probably would have talked about discontinuing if the vomiting had continued today.
We decided not to give it because he is just so exhausted from not sleeping much at all in the past 24 hours (no nap and super restless sleep at night), and he was very peaceful and ready for sleep. I didn’t want to risk a disaster that kept him up for ages if he was doing well. I am wondering if it is worth trying again in the morning with chocolate syrup or if it is too late to bother at that point.
My DS is 2.5 and just had the flu about a week ago. He threw up his first dose of Tamiflu and I considered quitting but was encouraged by everyone I talked to to continue it. If it matters, I have several nurses and doctors in my family. I was solo parenting and didn’t want to leave the house with my DS, so I couldn’t get chocolate syrup, so I gave his next doses with m&m’s. He only threw up one more dose.
His flu was very mild. His fever was gone in 3 days and the next full day he had his energy back.

My son threw up after the first dose, but I think the taste is what triggered it. I mixed it with 4T of chocolate coffee creamer and then he took it fine. It cut down the flu SO much. He had flu A and was fine in 2 days. Our friends who did not do tamiflu had a terrible experience with flu A and one child had hallucinations (guessing dehydration from days of high fever.) We have sadly been reminded this year that the flu can be fatal so we’re all about reducing flu length and symptoms:-(

I know my response is kinda late but my sons both threw up after the first dose. They were okay after that. My older son did throw up one more time but we learned if we fed him 30 minutes before he didn’t get sick.
He had eaten about 20 minutes before. But happily, he is better except for the last remnants of his croupy cough, and we are off to Disney World tomorrow!
