I’ve never used rider swap before. There are 4 of us, 2 adults, 3 yo, and baby. If we do 7 dwarfs all with a FP how does this work? H with take 3yo while I wait with baby, but when it’s my turn do they let me take the 3yo again? Or is it just me alone?
Yes, you take the 3 yo again with you. There would be a separate scanning area for rider swap, usually--just tell a team member (before scanning in for the ride) that you are doing rider swap and ask what to do. It seemed really complicated to me in advance of the trip but it was pretty smooth when we were there in person.

When we went both of our kids were under 3 (so no tickets and therefore no fast passes) although DD1 was tall enough for mine train, etc. We would fast pass different attractions so one of us could take the baby on something and then rider swap on to the other attraction. We did get lectured at Seven Dwarves Mine Train that we were both supposed to have fast passes for the ride in order to do rider swap. It was our last morning and no one had said anything about that the entire week before. We honestly weren’t trying to game the system - we wouldn’t have needed rider swap if we both had fast passes since DD could have gone twice regardless. I mean the baby and I had a fast pass for Winnie the Pooh while H and DD1 went on mine train - not exactly a high profile attraction.
They let DD (age 6) have the option of doing every ride again with her dad when we showed up to rider swap, but she was a fraidy cat and didn't want to ride anything twice - Everest, Slinky Dog, Mine Train, Thunder Mountain. She skipped Space Mountain altogether.

We have never needed a FP for everyone. only the first group riding. We have done this at Mine Train and Flight of Passage. I have heard rumors of CMs saying everyone needs a FP but that has never been the case for us.
FWIW, I did have fast passes for everyone, including the non-rider. It was just easier for me to do the fast passes that way as we weren't splitting up anyway.
I tried to research this before we left, and it was very confusing. People were all over the board about experiences at Disney and whether or not you ALL needed FP for the rider swap ride. Again, we just all did the same FP as we were staying together all day anyway. I don't know what the "right" answer is and I suspect it's inconsistently managed.
My big kids loved it when my youngest didn't ride, b/c they got to go on a bunch of big rides twice--Everest, FOP, Space Mountain, Slinky Dog.
