So, I'm leading a project at work. It's wrapping up next week (YAY!!! No more 12-hour days!!!). I want to take my team out to lunch as a thank you. Now here's where it gets tricky.
My team consists of 2 people who have done the VAST majority of the work (probably 600+ hours each over the past few months, started right at the very beginning), one person who jumped in late but is being very helpful now (~100 hours this month), and two people who have pitched in a few hours here or there (<50). Who do I invite?
Part of me only wants to take the two who did most of the work, because I think they deserve it the most. The other says take the person who put in 100 hours, too, because that's still a decent chunk, plus she's helping out right in the end, when it's most needed. But then is that not enough of a thank you to the two who were with me from the beginning?
I am way overthinking this because it's my first time leading a project, and I don't want to piss anyone off!
I would say do one big celebration with everyone who worked on it. Then give the top three performers something extra if you can. Maybe the two a full day off and the third and half day off.

I say take everyone. The people who contributed less will most likely appreciate it, and will be more likely to help out more next time around. It's all about building rapport and nothing does that better than a free lunch!
