If you could get a massage a few days before or after a race or athletic event (but not both before and after), which would you choose?
I usually do before, because I want to relieve tight and sore areas before a race, but I can see the benefits of getting a massage afterwards. If you get one after, do you think it helps you recover? How many days after do you schedule it?

For awhile I had a membership for monthly massages. I would do the massages after races. I'd usually schedule them 2-4 days after my race depending on my schedule and their availability. Loved it!

My first 3 marathons I did one 2-3 days afterwords. They were glorious and I really looked forward to them. I've never done one before.
Now in my training cycles I usually end up doing a sports massage or two in the middle as issues perk up. It's a way different kind of massage but I've found it incredibly beneficial. For example I have one scheduled for Friday, I can't get rid of my tight hips and lower back pain. I usually spend the hour trying not to cry but at the end I have hip mobility again.

I usually end up pretty sore after a good massage. Enough to hinder physical activity.
