All the thermometers were gone at the Walgreens near our house.
This is a good one. H just said we should replace our thermometers.
The irony is that our local supermarkets are actually pretty well-stocked; it’s the bulk-buying stores like Costco that are seeing empty shelves.
This isn’t a shortage scenario, but we also upgraded all our internet equipment to make it easier to work from home. I don’t quite need business-speed wifi but I did need something better for video calls. The last time we replaced our router was TEN YEARS AGO. That’s crazy to me. Our modem was only four years old but the cable company came and replaced that too when I upgraded to higher speeds.

CloudBee I really like my Lena cup. It took a few cycles to get efficient at placing it correctly but it is so much better than tampons. Very comfortable, I've heard it's a great first cup because it's softer than some others.

My DH tried to schedule with Comcast this week to upgrade us to gigabit speed, which I am shocked we can actually do. But it will come very much in handy, especially if he starts WFH too. They bumped us to next Monday. I'm hoping that they're still sending techs out by then.
Yesterday NPR said Singapore and Australia had a run on condoms because someone was saying to cover your fingers with them to press elevator buttons and such.
That sentence didn't end the way I thought it was going to.
In hindsight this one really should have been obvious to me, but if you have any need for latex gloves look for them now.
I have to use them when I do dh's medical care and didn't even think about it until I stopped into the store for something else and saw the empty spot for gloves.

We use them at work (chemical handling) and we can’t get them!
I’m at CVS now (not risking ShopRite again) and the condom shelf is missing a few varieties.
Hand soap, sanitizer, bread all gone. Almost no milk left, even small bottles. Ditto for sparkling water single bottles. A lot of the snack foods were gone or in short supply.
In Pennsylvania, the state government runs all of the stores where you can buy liquor. The PA governor already shut down Montgomery County in Eastern PA and he is asking all Pennsylvanians to not go out to restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, etc. So, I wonder if he will order all of the liquor stores to close. I stopped by my local “state store” (that’s what we call them) last night and stocked up.
And our beer distributor (I live in Montco) was wiped out last night, lol.

I use gloves for cooking, (holdover from my pro chef days) cutting onions, and handling raw meat/seafood. I buy a box twice a month, and I haven't been able to find any. Luckily I found a few boxes of black nitrile gloves from a dinner party we used to do several years ago. It's gettin sexy up in my kitchen.
But according to my local QFC (Kroger chain,) the next big thing is bananas. We have a large section of organic and regular bananas and it was completely empty.

Do you have a Harbor Freight store near you? That is where we buy gloves.

Bananas are a weird one - they go bad so fast! I feel like apples or oranges would last a lot longer

We do and we checked and they don’t have the type we need for the chemicals we handle. We have a lot of smalls but I’m the only one who usually uses them. Two of my coworkers are using them (albeit uncomfortably)

Agreed, I don't know why anyone would stock up, unless they cut up and freeze them for smoothies like I do?
...so I finally gave in to the panic and went to Kroger on my lunch break. I've had rice on my list for weeks... the shelves were bare except for small bags of arborio... I guess at least we can eat risotto during quarantine? Silver linings, right?

So...a couple of years ago, my cat was doing poorly. Hyperthyroidism. So we tried the pills, and she hated that. So we switched to a gel that we rubbed into her ears... we used latex gloves to do that. She did really well and held out for about a year, but in 2018 she crossed the bridge. I held on to a just-opened box of latex gloves for more than a year. I guess it was one of those last connections. And then a few months ago we moved...and I purged the box of latex gloves. ... I really wish I had kept them so I could send them to you. I'm sorry ... I was at the store today, and I really tried to focus on just what we needed for 2 weeks. I was shocked by all the empty shelves. I caught myself analyzing other's carts (what are they thinking of that I'm not?). And I bought paper napkins (because there was no TP or paper towels to buy). I think Ibuprofen is going to be the next panic buy. And anything with electrolytes.
ETA: completely random, but I do have a few (six?) Hypodermic needles stashed in a drawer. They're leftover from my trip to China (back during SARS). Never used and free to those who need them.
- tylenol (childrens and adult) - ibuprofen (childrens and adult) - cold and flu medicine (childrens and adult) - Flonase (Costco brand) - Gatorade - Pasta - Frozen Veggies - Flour - Yeast
Then I basically went through what meals we regularly eat and made sure we had enough to make those meals for 3-4w by taking out and replacing any fresh ingredients. Like usually we have certain fresh produce and other things with the meals but the base of it can all be made with stuff from the freezer/pantry. And I can add frozen vegetables or whatever. Might be a weird meal or super basic but oh well.
We also switched to buying blocks of cheese 2 weeks ago because we felt like that would stay fresh longer.
I also bought snacks, pasta, non perishables like that. Rice, etc. the taco seasoning everyone likes. I buy ground beef and chicken on Tuesdays at fresh market so I’ve been building up that stash more than I usually do.
Also to be clear I DID NOT hoard or over buy any of this stuff. I bought 1 of each thing for my family of 4 of the items I listed from Costco/Sams. So yes it was a bulk amount of Advil but just one package.

Eggs. Almost completely gone here. Crackers, kids snack bars and other snack foods, Dog food? If you plan on grilling outside at all I would make sure you have charcoal, propane, etc.
So we confirmed that our neighbors are yuge Trumpers today, watching nothing but Fox News. They have no food in the house and think they’re going to Europe in a couple of weeks. Byeeeeee.
