I’ve made 15 masks 😷 in the past week for family and friends. I think I have like 30 more requested. I’ve been batch making them but sewing the bias ties is killer. Thank goodness I have a bias strip maker.
I’ve made close to 60 at this point for friends and neighbors. I was lucky to have elastic for them - I don’t think I have the patience to make that many bias ties!! I also have a pattern/file to make a style in the hoop of my embroidery machine. It has “tubes” sewn into the side to put ties through. I cut up a couple old, white t-shirts for those - they work great!

Yeah I had elastic enough to do one each for the kids (DD and all my nephews) but no more than that. Elastic has become the hot commodity in my town’s sewing circle. I didn’t want to buy any since I don’t have the time or capacity to make enough masks or headbands to donate. Last count the community had donated over 1000 headbands and 3000 scrub caps. There are no calls for masks here yet, but it’s suggested for the general public to wear them when running errands to protect others.
I ended up making 4 face masks for our family. I followed the video on YouTube with the filter pocket. I had to improvise as I didn’t have the right elastic so I made ties for the Kids masks and used the right elastic for dh and some different wide elastic for mine. I also didn’t have the best fabric so upcycled an old t shirt. I enjoy sewing but am not that great at it and it takes time to get everything out and set up.

I swear half the posts on the local Facebook sewing group are new members asking how to clean up and repair their machines that they haven’t used in five years. I’m glad you got some masks made and I hope they help your family. Crazy times!
I drafted my bag pattern. I'm going to make a few changes and then I'll start drawing out paper patterns. Then I have to pick fabric from my stash that's nice enough to use the first bag but that I'm not going to mourn if it turns out awful. The only other complicated bag I drafted myself I just drew out on paper and cut with a ruler as I figured out parts. This time I have an acutal mock up out of paper. Hopefully that makes this one go a lot smoother.
I’m looking for a new craft to pick up. I want something that will create useful things that are quick (2-4 hours total) to do and not tool intensive. I was thinking cross stitch or crochet but don’t know what I’d do to make that useful. I don’t want wall hangings or extra blankets or scarves. The circuit seems interesting but not something I can do while watching tv or helping the boys with their school work. Sewing would require my machine to be out and all the stuff to be out. I scrapbook but not feeling that at the moment. I’m at a loss. Any ideas?
I follow Nifty on Facebook and was inspired by some of their marbled clay projects: cute bowls, coasters, jewelry, etc. I had some Joann gift cards so I spent about $40 on a bunch of clay as well as cutting tools, a roller, and some gold paint. Haven't started yet (I'm still working, but from home) but I'm looking forward to it!
