I feel like my brain is turning mushy with all this staying home nonsense lol. DS's 16th birthday is Friday. Obviously, we're going to be rolling in the fun (like staying home again, eating take out, him hiding out in his room playing video games). I'm going to make him a cake but am just blanking on a fun thing to make with my limited options.
Current lame thoughts: writing on his cake about the world stopping for him; something about him no longer getting his license (his test got cancelled, obviously) or just making a lame boring cake with frosting. I've done fun stuff in the past, but I have limited stuff here.
Stuff he likes: being surly, being tall, improv, video games, Japanese class.
lol...I do like torturing him! I might do a scavenger hunt!
I talked to a friend last night and I think I'm going to get some little kid keys (like teethers) and write on his cake something about this being the closest he'll get to having his own keys for awhile lol

I like the scavenger hunt and funny cake keys idea!
Can you set up having some friends drive by and honk or have silly signs? I know a girl who turned 16 last week and her friends did that... I have boys too and I'm not sure I could get my young teen to do a very creative sign. But maybe having a zoom call with his friends or having them send videos?
It sucks having a birthday during a pandemic. Especially a teen. I did a scavenger hunt with my kid last year for his birthday where he had to figure out clues and go around our downtown. When he got to a place he got a present (new pedals at the bike shop, book at the bookstore, flannel at a clothing store) - I don't know if you could do that, but maybe an IOU or gift card for after?
I downloaded a stop-action video program and made a funny video of my teen around the house the other day. He has been sulky and morose. He was annoyed, but also laughed and sort of liked it. He said it was "creepy" that I was taking random photos of him.
Let us know what you decide. I started teaching my oldest kid to drive during this - he's a bit young for his permit, but we did some sessions in a parking lot since we can't do much else.
