If yours has a sanitize function, do you use it? I like the idea of it, but it doubles the running time of a load, and I’m wondering if it’s just a waste of energy.

I (typically) use my dishwasher as a drying rack because I wash things by hand as I go, it's just easier for me and I'm used to not having a dishwasher. I just looked and my dishwasher does have this feature, but no I don't plan to use it. I googled and it says that it's certified to kill 99% of bacteria? That is interesting, but no I don't think I have a need for using that feature.
We used it to death to sanitize bottles, sippy cups, pump parts, and teething toys for about a year, because twins. I wasn’t hand washing 15 bottles and parts each day lol. Anyway the excessive heat corroded the bearings on the top rack, which fell apart, and then small pieces of that trickled into the the pump and ruined the whole dishwasher.
So, now we only use the (new) dishwasher on sanitize if we are sick lol
Do you also boil? Because I do the same thing. I can never tell if it's overkill or if I'm just being smart. LOL!
Hand wash, dishwasher, plop in boiling water, then in the oven at a temp over 220 until I'm ready to fill and put in the boiling water bath.
If it's overkill, I don't want to be right. If anyone gets botulism, it won't be from my apple butter.
Lol, this is exactly my sentiment and your process is the same as ours. It also makes me very skeptical of accepting canned goods from others, which makes me feel hypocritical.
I have used it, but don't use it regularly. My dishwasher is a million years old and already insanely inefficient with a super long cycle, plus, I don't really see the need to use it on a regular basis.
