I’ve never watched any of them, and hope to never have to. Since I’ve therefore never seen Frozen II, I have to ask - how big a part of the plot is the concept of “water having memory”? That concept is so strongly linked to homeopathy, and even if it wasn’t what they were going for, I have a big issue with the plot of a kids movie using anything so entangled in anti-science BS.

I didn’t even know that was a thing in the world of woo. Interesting. It comes up a bit I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest part or anything. Because I didn’t know about it like that until you mentioned it, it just seemed like a “magical” movie thing that isn’t real life. Hard to explain.

Yeah, the underlying concept of homeopathy is that you dilute a toxin to the point that there is absolutely nothing left, but because water has memory, it remembers the toxin and magically turns into medicine.
I have never seen Frozen II and only saw the original once on a plane. DS has seen neither, as he seems to have zero interest in full length movies. I can't wait until I can take him to Pixar movies.
(This is not a superior "my kid doesn't get screen time!" post, he is currently on hour 3 of Peppa Pig).

Really? I was about to say it is the central theme of the movie! The whole plot is that Elsa learns all about the past because she can freeze water into the "memory" images from the past. Without the "water has memory" idea, there is no movie.

Maybe. Lol. But I still never felt that it seemed a little "woo." Just your typical type of Disney theme.

I have seen this probably 20 times now and have never made this connection 🤣🤣 thank you for explaining the movie to me.

Why does Elsa turn into a spirit and have to go live alone in the forest at the end? Why can't she stay queen? The ending is what annoys me the most... it basically undid the happy ending from Frozen 1.

She didn’t feel like she was meeting her potential as queen. She sang the song at the beginning about her power growing and not being of use in the kingdom.
She didn’t have to go live in the forest, she wanted to live there. She wasn’t alone, she lived with the tribe.
It’s how they’re connecting the two communities, one sister for each realm. I don’t think she ever wanted to be queen, so it made sense that she didn’t feel like she fit the role. She always had a lot of anxiety about fitting into the role and being accepted because of her magic. The tribe sees magic as a blessing from nature and completely normal.

Do you want Elsa as your queen? Powers she barely understands and brings trouble to Arendelle in both movies. Smartest thing she did was give control to Anna.

She has never felt like she belonged. I don't think it's unhappy for her to leave that life.
Finally got a chance to read this! I guess it makes sense, sort of, but I think that’s part of the problem. If you need to read an article after watching the movie to explain it, I don’t think it was very well written.
I watched Moana with DD1 this week and it is SO much better!

I did not feel I needed to read an article to find the ending satisfactory
But, it's also true that I enjoy reading critical analysis pieces in general, so reading articles to hear different ideas was something that added to my enjoyment.
