I prefer the music from Frozen, but I appreciate Disney trying to not make their parents look like total assholes in Frozen 2. I mean the plots in both were still not great, but at least they tried?
I didn't really like much about II when we saw it in the theatres, from the plot to the music, but it's grown on me. H actually asked me yesterday which one was better and I couldn't decide. Deep quarantine conversations over here.
I voted SS because I don't get what's so great about these movies. The music is completely forgettable. I think they were going for some sort of cartoon version of a Broadway musical but the melodies and rhythms aren't catchy, and aside from a couple of songs, there are too many voices and ranges for kids to sing along. Plus there's no good villain song. I could overlook the mediocre music if the plots were great but they're meh. If we're comparing it to another recent Disney movie, something like Moana is 1000x better.
My DD watched the movies, but seems more interested in pretending to be Elsa so she can "freeze" us. 😂
DD was younger for Frozen and so we watched it a billion times. Then she declared she was over princesses and we only saw Frozen II once, which may color my opinion. I liked the first one better.

I prefer Frozen II. It has always really annoyed me that Elsa was supposed to be the antagonist in Frozen, but after they wrote “Let it Go” they thought it was a better hero song. (Even though the lyrics are still kind of villainous - “Let the storm rage on”). They had no plans to make Hans the villain until halfway through production and it shows.
Slight preference for Frozen II. I still prefer the music from Frozen I but II's music is growing on me as we watch it again and again.
Yeah, I think part of my resistance for me on II was them pushing Into the Unknown as the new anthem. I think it's ok, but every time they hit Show Yourself I get chills

Show Yourself is superior in all ways to Into the Unknown. Disney was actually shocked when everyone drifted to Show Yourself. 🤣
My kid shrieking Into the Unknown does make me laugh, though.

Yeah, Show Yourself is what I consider to be the anthem of that movie. It's a great song. I listened to all the songs before seeing the movie and then when I watched it in the movie the first time, it made me cry.

I remember getting goosebumps while seeing the original Frozen in the theater for the first time. I was completely drawn in to the point where I wasn't thinking analytically about the plot too much and just enjoyed the experience. My kids were never obsessed to the point where we watched it over and over and over again (like with Finding Nemo and Lion King 1 and 2) so I don't mind watching it again occasionally. When we saw Frozen 2 in the theater, I sat there going 'huh?' a lot of the time. I didn't understand a lot of the plot choices they made, and I was never drawn in enough to stop caring when things didn't make sense. Leaving the theater, I was thinking, was that really the best they could do for a sequel to the biggest hit they've had in forever? and being confused by how much my kids and my friends loved it. I've watched it once more since then, and still feel the same way, so now if my kids put it on, I will actually leave the room. At least the songs don't bother me though because dd does play the sound track fairly often.
A month ago, I would have chosen Frozen by a landslide. We saw Frozen 2 in theatres and were underwhelmed (well, aside from my then 3-year-old for whom it was a first theatre experience AND her name is Samantha, and that part with Olaf was just about the best thing ever in her world). We have since rematches it maybe 2-3 times, and with each rewatch, it has grown on me, especially the music. We haven’t seen the Olaf one, but the two Frozens are equal for me now.
As far as Disney movies go, I give them both a solid B. Not amazing, but catchy and fun to watch. My kid liked them.
I know Disney owns Pixar, but I prefer the complexity of Pixar’s story lines and characters to your straight Disney Princess type of movie.
100% AGREE!!! We watched the Incredibles and it is SOOO much better than the Frozen movies. DD1 did not agree, LOL. We finally saw Incredibles 2 a few months ago and I love it so much. I can't wait until it's on Disney+.

Also agree, Moana is way better, both for plot and the music. But DD1 thinks it is too scary.

H and I saw Frozen in the theater before kdis. We are huge Disney/Pixar fans and I thought it was "meh" even then. I do NOT like Frozen 2 at all. The music is ok and I love Idina Menzel, but the plot is terrible and I hate it. DD1 is obsessed and every time I watch it, it drives me nuts that it makes no sense. Considering how long it took them to make the movie, I was surprised they couldn't come up with a better story.
I LOVED "Frozen II." I'm not even sure why. I actually thought they did an amazing job continuing the story with the princesses growing more fully into adulthood. I do think they are all "magical in their own way," but I chose "Frozen 2" b/c for whatever reason it really had depth for me and moved beyond the typical princess movie. Frozen I was a really fun twist on the princess movie, but still followed a more typical arc.
And yes, "Show Yourself" is amazing. My kids have played that soundtrack over and over.

I think the songs are so much better in the first one, but maybe I need to see II 100 more times to make a fair comparison.
We've never watched Olaf's special.
hahaha this. I have watched frozen II once, during which I fell asleep for 80% of it and saw only the end, which did make me cry a little.
But other than that, I can name 2 songs from the second movie, versus every song from the first. But my son watches the OG frozen at least once a week.

I love both movies, haven't seen or heard of the Olaf special. I preferred the second movie, and that may be the first time I've ever said that about a sequel.
