QOTW: With the pandemic going on, are there any specific books or types of books you are avoiding reading? (Example: Station Eleven, about a pandemic haha)
I finished an ARC, Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, which I really enjoyed. The plot was imperfect at times but the writing was really beautiful. Definitely worth reading: www.goodreads.com/book/show/53080756-migrations I just started Queen Sugar by Natalie Baszile, which was a random pick on my last library trip (oh no it’s closing get all the books!).
Qotw: I’m not reading or avoiding anything in particular. I’m still having trouble concentrating, so anything that holds my attention is good.
We finished Little House on the Prairie this week and have moved on to Farmer Boy. There are some (small) parallels between life on the frontier in the 1870s and an epidemic quarantine in 2020. I told my husband when he went to the grocery store the other day that I felt like Ma, waiting for Pa to come back the 40 miles from Independence with provisions. Haha.
QOTW: I definitely would not reach for a pandemic book right now on my own, or apparently anything else either. The constant interruptions from my kids during the day make it very hard for me to get into the zone. It seems easier to scan the news or the boards real quick than commit to reading a book if I’m just likely to be interrupted in three minutes anyway.
I finished the last of my physical library books. Decided to dive into the books we own that I haven’t read and started the non-fiction Fly Girls. I keep finding other things to do tho, so not doing much reading.
Not reading pandemic type stuff nor overly sad/depressing fiction.
I did not finish Ten Thousand Doors of January. I just couldn't get into this book. I finished The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, 3* and Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl, 5*. The kids and I really enjoyed this book. They loved his shenanigans and I enjoyed seeing where he got inspiration for his books. I started The Turn of a Key by Ruth Ware and the kids and I are starting Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo tonight.
QOTW: If I know it's going to be sad or dystopian I may hold off reading it. I am having a difficult time concentrating so if a book is not keeping my attention I give up on it easier. I refuse to force my way through a book right now.
I recently read the Two Lives of Lidia Byrd (okay), Untamed (liked it a lot, and I enjoy Glennon’s morning videos during the pandemic), The Sundown Motel (really liked) and Such a Fun Age (loved it).
I think I am starting The Starless Sea next, though I made add in something fluffy first. i am avoiding overly sad books right now because I need some escape. Real life is enough to deal with right now.
I'm listening to Robert Jordan's The Fires of Heaven, book 5 in his Wheel of Time series (a re-read). I also just started reading Where the Crawdads Sing for a new IRL book club.
QOTW in times of stress I find myself drawn to re-reads. The hardest books for me right now would be non-fiction about difficult subject matter.
Finished: The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel - I really enjoyed this. I'm actually surprised because the story itself isn't the type of thing I normally enjoy.
Timebound by Rysa Walker - This was a fun book and a quick read. I didn't realize going in that this was YA and that the other book I read by the author wasn't but it definitely showed. I'm annoyed that it's leading towards the stereotypical YA love triangle plot but I will probably continue the series eventually.
Currently reading: The Ten Thousand Doors of January
QOTW: I am just trying to stay away from anything too heavy or depressing.
I finished Good Girls Lie by JT Ellison: 3.5 stars It was ok and the short chapters really helped me stay focused.
QOTW: I read The Girl In Red right as we started locked down. I enjoyed it. I got 2 other pandemic themed e-books from the library and couldn’t read either one. I’m having a major hard time focusing so I nee short books with short chapters.

I finished Whisper Network. It was probably a little over the top but I still really liked it.
QOTW: it hasn't come up by I think I wouldn't mind reading a pandemic book right now. I'm one of those people who always think about the worst case scenario so it would probably be right up my alley.

I'm nearly finished with Night Film and I really like it but it's a weird blend of being a page turner but as soon as I can manage to put it down it takes me a while to pick it up again because I know it'll be all consuming again.
QOTW: Nothing specific comes to mind but I find myself wanting to read more non-real world books (fantasy, sci-fi) so that I can live in a different world.
