Does anyone have a suggestion for plants to put along our fence to reduce road noise? We live beside a busy street and want to plant something on the other side of our fence to help when we are outside.

Need more info - What kind of light does the area get? What zone are you? What's the drainage like? How much space do you have? I would think anything geared toward privacy would work. If it's a lower light area, Skip laurel, higher light arbor vitae are a classic choice. Those are just a couple options though, there are endless choices

Ummm I have no idea the answer to these questions since I’m so not a plant person. I’ll try my best !
Drainage is good...I think. We never have water pooling in that area.
Light & space- it is the the west side of the house. It is house -> 8.5 feet -> 8 foot fence -> noise reducing plants -> 15 feet of grass -> 4 lane road -> another block of houses
Plants aren't really going to work great for noise reduction, you need something that is going to be impervious to sound like a solid, thick wooden fence with no gaps, something like tongue and groove would work really well. What type of fence do you have now? Most standard fencing is not really thick enough to act as a sound barrier.

A crappy pine one. It will be replaced with a board on board cedar fence so soon!
