One of the projects I've started tackling while we're all at home is cleaning up/out my basement. After 5 years in acquisition mode with baby/child gear, I'm now giving away and selling a bunch of stuff as DS, my youngest, outgrows it. I am on a roll this week and want to continue that trend by doing a little decorating/fixing up of my workout area.
I have always meant to make it a place I want to workout, that makes me happy and inspired, but I have never actually done much toward that goal. The stuff on the walls (old high school swimming awards and beach patrol race pics from my college years) is there because I didn't have any other place to put it, not really because they're my most inspiring things.
The cream paint and pink flowered linoleum were from the past owners. Realistically I'm not sure I see new flooring right now (as much as I wish for it), but painting is definitely on the table. The rugs are old bound remnants from our last house that I just put down there to cover the linoleum.
Some of my functional ideas include: - a mat I can wipe down, for stretching/core work, instead of one of the rugs - a small set of dumbbells or kettlebells for a little strength work, since I used to rely on the gym's weights for that - a large mirror (to put where?) so I can watch form while doing exercises
I will PIP the space I'm working with, in a comment below. I would love some suggestions, and inspiration pics of what you ladies have done.
Foam flooring pieces are a really great idea, thank you!
I was going to pipe in and say that the foam type flooring really made the difference in our basement space. We actually bought a roll of it vs the squares. It's been years but I think we purchased from an online flooring place. DH was able to cut to fit.
We installed some inexpensive floating shelves below/around the TV to store DVDs and bought a cube type storage unit at Target with 6-8 spots and baskets for our gloves, exercise bands, yoga straps, etc.
