So I’m not religious but my friend is. Her DH is an absolute dirt bag and hopefully post Covid she will actually get the cahoonas to leave him but in the mean time I would like to get her a devotional. She waits hand and foot on her husband (she’s been through counseling and thinks she needs to do this to prove she has changed bc she was previously shitty as well) and also her four kids. She is constantly attending to the needs of everyone in her house EXCEPT her. I know her DH isn’t going to do a damn thing for Mother’s Day. Her two older kids might have a clue what day it is and make a card but the younger two are too young to know. I want to get her a few small things to drop off and I would love to get her a short devotional so she can step away from the chaos and take a few minutes for herself. Anyone have one (that doesn’t take too much time each day) that they love?
I don't do a daily devotional out of anything in particular, but given what you've shared about her, she may like stuff written by Lysa TerKeurst. I haven't done this one, but it's full of encouragement:
"Jesus Calling" is another daily devotional that tons of people really love. It's not my favorite, but it's very popular.
ETA: Do you know that she desires a daily devotional type thing? My hesitation would be that she would feel like it's just ONE MORE THING to add to her already crazy day.
I like She Reads Truth. They make pretty devotional books and have a corresponding app and podcast. You can read along with the community as new devotionals are published in the app each day, or in the book on your own time. Here's their current book on the Promises of God: www.shopshereadstruth.com/products/promises-of-god-study-book-she-reads-truth
There is a book I think would be really good for her, but for the life of me I can't remember the title or author. I'll describe it in case anyone else is familiar with this book.
The book is written like a daily devotional, but it's organized by "season of life", and the author specifies that you can do the chapters at any speed and in any order. The author has two daughters, who were a teen and preteen at the time the book was written. A lot of the chapters focus on things like giving yourself grace and letting go of the small things to leave more time for self care and connection with loved ones, and just generally taking time to breathe.

Boundaries - my mom read this book at the suggestion of her pastor. She has similar issues, I think she really liked it and it helped her learn when and how to assert herself.
