We were about to schedule interior painting when everything shut down back in March. We have vaulted ceilings in part of our house and since the painters will need scaffolding, we are going to have our lights replaced while they are at it. I want to finalize some decisions about lighting so that I can move quickly on that once we can safely do this.
One of the lights is a horribly ugly 90s brass pendant. It takes 8 lightbulbs. Surely this is overkill? The room is 10x11.5', open on 2 ends (to the actual entry downstairs/gameroom above and our living room), with an entrance to the kitchen. There is also a walls sconce on the stairs, stairwell tread lighting, and a lamp.
A 4-light chandelier/pendant is enough lighting for that space in which people hang coats in the (lighted) coat closet and walk up the stairs, right?
Yes I would think anything from 2-4 lights would be plenty. If they are exposed bulbs you will want more since you will likely be using candelabra or Edison bulbs which are lower wattage and lower light output. If it is enclosed with a shade a 2bulb fixture would work as well, since you can put a 60 or 80 Watt equivalent bulb in there.
