So, DH has been itching for things to do whole unemployed during COVID so the house has been getting a bit of a makeover. The other day when I came home I found that he had painted the trim around a closet door with white ceiling paint. While I definitely prefer it to the light oak ALL over our house it just seems off to me. Maybe too white? Pics below are the color of the walls and what our flooring will soon look like (FIL is remodeling as well and given us his flooring that is only about 3 yrs old). What trim color would work? For some reason I'm at a loss here. TIA!

I agree with the poster above for the color, but would also suggest a higher sheen than what you have on your ceiling. Unless you have a really high sheen on your ceiling.
Oh...yeah, I do like that a lot more. I found the paint can. This ceiling white was actually untainted semi gloss so definitely more sheen than the ceiling.
If he did it with ceiling paint, it probably looks weird more because of the sheen than the tint. Ceiling paint is flat. I like semi-gloss for trim, although high gloss is even more durable.
I have no objection to untinted white on trim, but ours is SW Alabaster.
I painted the bookcases with the same paint as the trim. The ceiling is untinted white, you can see the crown molding is a little warmer.
In my last house I did all my trim in untinted white semi-gloss. It worked well there. Our current house has some cream toned trim colour from the builder and it is dreadful. I want to redo it all but there is no way that is happening.
I will say if your windows mostly face North then you wind up with bluer light in the house which can make untinted paint appear blue grey. I can see how that would look off with your paint and wood tones.

Same. Some of the trim was cream and some was almost beige and it's so awful and such a PITA to paint. We are going one room at a time and painting it with untinted white semi-gloss.
