Is it perfect? No. It's still a little too blunt and slightly longer in the back than in the front. But I am so glad I did it and it definitely passes for now. I desperately needed a haircut and I feel so much lighter without all that hair. When our SIP is finally lifted, I will apologize profusely to my stylist and have her clean it up.

I used this same video while watching about 4 iterations of it. It turned out well. I cut about an inch more off than I wanted but it works and is so much lighter. I also had dh help me even out the back. I have thick hair and did 4 ponytails. 6 probably would have been even better. I cut off about 7 inches.
Like, your own? I don't have the courage or desire to cut my own hair. It's long layers and while the ends are a little ratty, I had a haircut late February so it's not a remotely desperate situation yet.
I cut my son's. It came out great. I just watched a video and tried to follow the pattern of his actual real haircut from a stylist. It took me about 3x as long as it takes her, but he has a ton of hair and I bribed him with kindle videos.
I did my H’s yesterday. He told me step by step what his hairdresser does and I think I did okay. But then I said “I wonder what it would look like if we just shaved it” and he said “okay just do it.” So now he has a shaved head and it looks...fine ish lol.
DH trimmed the girls' hair today. He held off until he got the right type of scissors and a couple of fine combs (Amazon was sold out, but I nudged him to Sally Beauty Supply. They still had things in stock and they shipped out pretty quickly).
Their hair is long and one length, so it wasn't like he was trying to replicate a more complex cut. He did well and it looks tidy. We'll probably end up snipping a few ends that didn't quite get cut the same length as the others, over the next couple of days as we notice them. But overall, he did a great job. I'll probably have him trim mine sometime in the next few days.
I sort of wonder if him being motivated to cut the girls' hair is a reaction to not being able to get his own cut, lol. He *hates* having it long and is very timely about trims. I have no confidence that I could cut his hair competently -- I can and have helped him clean up the back of his neck with a trimmer, but cutting his actual hair to a consistent length is not something I think I could manage, and he shares my opinion on that! So he's just letting it grow.
I don’t imagine any of these are videos of a DIY pixie cut. 😢
I trimmed the boys hair. They look fine-ish. Just don’t look too closely and we’re good. I really only did it because they were sweaty-headed messes.
DH tried to trim my hair—I have super-thick, wavy hair and I have a pixie to avoid dealing with it. We just tried to trim around the edges and he took a little chunk out of my ear. So I’m good with crazy hair for the foreseeable future.

Yes. I was due for one mid February, but things got busy and I opted for color and delayed the cut. We were locked down by mid-March and it will probably be another two months before we are out. The nine year old is offering to do it. i almost said yes the ends are so bad. So I think i should bite the bullet and clean it up myself. Luckily I did get the kids cut fairly recently.

I cut about 12 inches off of my hair, and wend from longish to chin length. It looks fine on the sides, and not great on the back. I just wasn't able to get the layering I wanted, and H is scared to touch it. I didn't use a tutorial, just did what I remember seeing my stylist do to get layers.
I actually wanted to shave it, but when I plugged in the clippers they sparked and died, lol.
I actually did one BEFORE the quarantine because I'd been working 24/7 and my hair was out of control (it grows really, really quickly). I knew I had a real hair appointment in a few weeks so I had a failsafe but it actually turned out great - when I saw my stylist she didn't even notice anything weird. I used the ponytail method to cut it to shoulder length. I think I ended up taking off about seven inches. I would not attempt this method if my hair was shorter or it grew less quickly.
I cut off 4" and gave myself bangs for the first time. It turned out great! I didn't follow any instructions, just cut it while dry, holding scissors vertically. (I have really thick, curly hair.)
Is everyone cutting your own hair while dry or wet?
The video was dry but with her hair so wavy I was wondering why she didn't wet it first like they do at the salon?
I needed a haircut before this and now its just gross and I can't take it anymore.
I did mine dry, because I thought it would be easier, and I think it was. I've been snipping little bits here and there as I see them, but I wasn't expecting it to look perfect.

I usually cut my short, curly hair dry, unless I am using a razor...to me it hurts too much when it pulls on dry hair. My old hairdresser liked to cut it dry, so that she could cut best for the curl to do its thing.
A hairdresser taught my daughter how to cut her own bangs when she wore her straight hair in an asymetric bob. He told her to cut it dry (and to twist sections, starting in the center) because if you do it wet, it will never be straight when it dries and shrinks.
Update: DH cut my hair tonight. He took about 4 inches off and from what I can tell, it's even and a lot neater than my previous straggly ends. I'm pleased and I think he is pretty proud of himself for having done three successful haircuts.
While he was cutting, I joked that he could make it feel more like the salon by asking me if I had kids and what I do for a living. He was like, "Do you really want me to be distracted?" LOL. Nope. I'll just sit here quietly then.
Okay - I managed a bit today. I used this video instead. Unfortunately I only got through the first phase - before the layering - before i got permanently interrupted. I do think it's an improvement but I hope to get back to the second half sometime soon.
