On a total whim I asked H if we could redo our stairs. This man is an angel because he agreed. It was slow going because we only spent a day each weekend, but it only took ~3ish days. It's not 100% done because I need to figure out trim and finish patching holes.
We removed the railing on the right side of the stairs and created a continuous railing on the left. That alone took an entire day (four pieces to splice together accurately!) but it is so worth it.
That looks amazing! I love the newel posts, and the iron balusters look great!
In our last house H and I put in a continuous banister which zig zagged, and he still complains about that project five years later.
There was a lot of math involved which is not my strong suit. But after 15 years together, H and I generally communicate reaaaaally well during projects and that was so necessary for this project. We both agree we'd do it again though (and we might- in our basement).
I am still trying to figure out the trim on the newel posts. We originally wanted to taper but it was going to be so much work so now I may create a taper with trim.
