“ Ulster County health officials announced Thursday an employee at the barbershop that has been “operating illicitly” tested positive for coronavirus and urged any who received a haircut in Kingston in the last several weeks to contact a physician or seek testing.”
Anyone have a link for updated info on real death rates? I can't find anything after midApril giving data about the gap between officially tested cases that die and the overall increased death rate (which includes untested cases who die before testing and therefore are never identified).
In this was of uncertainty I think it's important to emphasize the concluding remarks that
...It's not clear whether cases like these are actual relapses, or if people tested negative without really being completely clear of the virus.
In other words, this doesn't mean we've determined that people can get it multiple times or that we can't.
True, but they all tested negative at least twice before returning to duty. It’s certainly something to be mindful of with regards to maintaining protocols after recovery.

I do not have a medical background, so I’m not sure if this is possible, but I wonder if their immune systems had reduced the virus down below the threshold of the tests (but not completely) only to have it fight it’s way back to detectable levels? It seems like many people have stories of feeling better for several days, then starting to feel worse again. Maybe the virus is actually being reduced and then makes a come back?
You’re absolutely right though — we definitely need to use this information to make smarter decisions about when/how to allow recovering individuals to return to normal activities.

A county in Washington was supposed to receive a package of 68,000 individually packaged sterile nasal swabs for testing. Instead they received boxes of qtips.
After contacting the coronavirus task force they were told to ignore the packaging and were assured they were sterile. Even though they were packed in bulk.
I read it today and it was so disturbing what happened in NY and a lot of it had to do with egos and people not liking each other. What sucks is that Cuomo gets a pass during his pressers and I wish someone would go hard on him. He should be held accountable and have to answer questions.

It’s been a little strange to watch him to grow to a national profile so quickly as some sort of coronavirus hero alongside Fauci. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad there’s a strong, steady voice to counter Trump and Pence’s complete lack of leadership, but we’re watching this here in California being like, um, hello?
Also, I’m really glad to see London Breed get some national attention too. I think she’s been under-recognized for her work on this. As an aside, she’s San Francisco’s first black female mayor — and definitely someone to watch going forward.

Yes I googled her after I read the article. It certainly took guts to close down a big city like she did with no cases. She deserves a lot of attention and she does not get it.
I'm in NJ and Murphy didn't do much better either but it's a blue state and thus no hard questions or criticisms. I remember him saying in an interview that they'd been planning for this since January. Really? I'm not a fan of Chris Christie but I remember him holding someone in an airport at Newark because they thought she had Ebola. He shouldn't have done that of course. He's an aggressive person though and I think he would have shut shit down a lot earlier. Some can't be objective and state that because they see just red and blue. NY would have been following NJ pressers. I also think about the fact that Cynthia Nixon ran for NY governor and imagine how much worse it would have been with someone running NY with zero experience during a pandemic.

I’m all for giving credit where credit is due. Gov. Mike DeWine in Ohio should get a lot of credit as well — and, as Republican, I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him to go against the party line either. He was the first GOP governor to enact shelter in place and make it a bipartisan decision.

Also quite likely they had false negatives. The Abbott test gets attention for being the least accurate but all of them have a pretty high incidence of returning false negatives.
The State Department Inspector General removed by Trump was looking into whether Mike Pompeo made a staffer walk his dog, pick up dry cleaning, and make dinner reservations for Pompeo and his wife, among other personal errands, per two congressional officials.
Michelle Obama is helping to give students a prom. Obama's nonpartisan organization, When We All Vote, and MTV will host a virtual prom event for the class of 2020.
The event is scheduled to kick off on May 22 with an all-day, on-air takeover on MTV featuring prom-themed throwback movies and short-form original content highlighting the winning schools and students.
At 9 p.m. EST a virtual prom party will live stream on MTV YouTube and include surprise celebrity guest appearances and live performances from major artists.
The event also serves to celebrate 20 winning high schools and students who organized the most creative nonpartisan voter registration efforts across the country.

And speaking of elevated profiles, there is a lot precedent for this. Chris Christie is a perfect example. His response to Sandy was actually really amazing and rose his percentage into the 70s but of course was taken down only a couple years later for bridge gate, lol.
I have been very impressed with Gov Wolfe of PA and the mayor of Philly. Shit was shut down before one case was ever verified which I thank him for.
