Our spring break cruise was cancelled and I’ve been waiting for a refund since 3/13. On 5/19, the refund finally showed up as pending on my very actively used Chase Sapphire Preferred. I’ve been checking everyday to see if it had posted. Well today it disappeared-not pending, not posted.
Does anyone know why this would happen and should I call Chase or the cruiseline? I have screenshots of the pending credit. Cruise passengers feel jerked around because most haven’t received refunds yet, even for the mid-March trips, according to the cruise critic message boards. madringal, any insight or advice?
This same thing happened to me on my Chase card actually! A few days later I could see the credit was there, but the transaction that showed the credit was not, I was so confused. But I scrolled back to the original date of the purchase and THAT’S where the refund transaction was listed. So odd! If you don’t see it by Tuesday I’d call Chase. When you call it tells you you’ll be on hold for like 6 days but they have always picked up right away. Hope that helps

The original charge was 12/13/19. I just did a keyword search on the transactions and the credit isn’t there. Thanks for the info, I’ll call them Tuesday if it’s not posted.
So I contacted Chase through the secure message and they said “However, the credit has dropped off your account possibly because the merchant has cancelled the refund. We recommend contacting the merchant directly to confirm the status of your credit.". So I’ll call MSC tomorrow and if they don’t give me a satisfactory answer, I’m doing a chargeback. I’m pissed. Our cruise was one of the first ones cancelled and they should’ve been refunded by now.

Oh no! That's awful! I hope you get it resolved quickly.

I called MSC today because the same happened with me. We were scheduled for an April 5 sailing. MSC told me they are trying people's accounts to make sure they are still active. If the account is good, then you should receive your refund in another 1-2 weeks. They said a lot of people's accounts are no longer correct and they have to figure out who needs a paper check.

The credits reappeared and posted. They’re dated 5/19 and posted 5/27. They were originally pending 5/19-5/23 and then disappeared because MSC cancelled the refunds per Chase. They must have posted overnight because they weren’t there when I checked late last night. Someone on cruise critic said MSC told them it was a known accounting error, not the reason you said. Who knows. I’m just glad I finally have my money and don’t have to stress about it anymore.
Chase is weird like that. I regularly see things pending (usually purchases) and then they disappear for a day or two before posting. I'm not sure why it happens but it's typical in my experience.

If its something you purchased in person you shouldn't see that much. But it is very typical when you order stuff online. They will run the card to verify the funds are good, but typically the merchant doesn't actually charge you until your item has shipped.

That makes sense, but I don't think that's usually our case since it's DHs card and he usually doesn't buy things online. It is a business card though so that may make a difference. I don't think it happens on our Freedom card.
We cancelled our RC cruise on 3/9 (for sail date of 3/16), and rebooked for 7/20. Not only did our cruise credit not come in before our final payment was due for the 7/20 cruise, but now THAT cruise is cancelled and we have yet to see a dime back. We expect a cruise credit for the original cruise, and refunds on our credit cards for pre-paid gratuities and shore excursions, plus the deposit we had to pay OOP on the second cruise. I know they are super-busy right now, but we were literally one of the first cruises to cancel, and are still waiting...

This happened to me, too, with a flight booked in early February.

We are still waiting on our Carnival refund. I called today as it’s been a month and they said it’s pending and no known timeframe as to when it will go through. My thought is they’re filing BK and our $500 is lost. I’m just glad we didn’t pay for it all and hoping we get it back someday.

We have a major Carnival port near us and haven’t heard anything about them filing bankruptcy. I think it’s just taking a while to process the volume of requests considering they have employees working from home and things just aren’t happening as fast. We did finally get our refund from RC and it took 10 weeks.
