Going off of the "What did you read in May?" post every so often we have readers who like books about bands or musicans. I love these kinds of books, ironcially the more dark and drug addicted the band (Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc. the better. Anyway looking for recommendations of books auto or biography that you've liked in the past.
I really enjoyed "Scar Tissue" and "Don't Try this at Home" by Dave Navarro (I wish he'd write another book now clean and in a good place)
I have the following in my in my TBR queue.
"Acid for the Children" by Flea
"Not Dead and I'm Not for Sale" by Scott Weiland
"Fall to Pieces" by Mary F Weiland (his ex wife)
"Whores an Oral History of Janes Addiction" - although I've heard this one isn't as good
I’ve read a couple about the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl - Times Like His: Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Other Misadventures by Martin James I found just ok. If I recall correctly there is lots of backstory on the changing music scene from 70s and 80s, which I think is the author’s area of expertise, but I found that stuff dry. Then there’s the one Dave Grohl’s mom, Virginia Grohl, wrote, which was a little lighter and covered the perspectives of 18 other moms of famous musicians. I’d recommend that. It’s called From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars.

I love this genre!
These two are my favorites: -I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution by Craig Marks -Beastie Boys Book by Michael Diamond and Adam Horovitz (I read this book- there a ton of photos- but the audiobook is supposed to be excellent as well)
Some other topics- New Wave, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Marc Almond (Soft Cell), Andy Taylor (Duran Duran), Joy Division, Mike Love and Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)
TBR soon: Altamont: The Rolling Stones, the Hells Angels, and the Inside Story of Rock's Darkest Day Play It Loud: An Epic History of the Style, Sound, and Revolution of the Electric Guitar by Alan di Perna

Anthony Kiedis wrote one called Scar Tissue, too.
From Cradle to Stage by Dave Grohl (not very gritty, though)
