Our new build house came with a screened in porch in red cedar. We moved in last June and left it for a year to season the wood. The past two weekends we stripped off the silver with an acid based wood cleaner, gave it a light sanding where it needed it and then used a penetrating oil wood treatment which we are really hoping keeps the wood looking good for awhile. We expect we will need to treat the Southwest facing exterior much more often than the interior. Maybe every other year?
