Anyone good with peonies? I have two in a bed that is not ideal (north side of house, shaded, and hidden behind some azaleas).
i know I should transplant them in fall. But life being what it is, it’s june and I’m pissed off at the azaleas. So, I’m likely taking those out soon, but the bed the peonies are going into won’t be ready til fall.
Will they be ok in a temp bed for awhile? Or potted until they can go in their new home?
I know i should focus on planning and just redo it all in the fall. But I’m home all the time and kinda bored. And I hate the azaleas.

I'm not an expert by any means, but my thoughts are Peonies are not too pricy, so unless those plants are really special to you, you can give it a try and see what happens. If you want to keep those particular plants, it would be best to wait until the new bed is ready so you're only transfering once.
If you do decide to trasplant twice, make sure you use a transplanting fertilizer, like Bio-tone to help them with the shock. You should also anticipate waiting a season or two before they perform well for you. You should also do it with the understanding that you may lose the plants all together.

After thinking about it far too much, I think this is what I came down to. If it works, great. If not, meh. They came with the house 10+ years ago, so it’s just me wanting to not kill a plant that I don’t need to.
