Granted, it’s still very new for us, so we’ve had no problems at all. We did buy the 5 year warranty, not bc of the brand, but more bc of our general skepticism toward appliance longevity.
We got the Flex Door model - top is a french door, bottom is like a side-by-side, split into two separate compartments. The left side is a freezer. The right side can be changed between four different temperatures (0, 20, 30, or 40). We keep it at 30 to increase our fridge space, since we have a stand-up freezer in the garage that’s only about 15 steps from our kitchen. It’s amazing for our family and lifestyle - my son is particularly pleased to have string cheese at his eye level. The layout is extremely efficient, and despite being virtually the same capacity as our former fridge, feels cavernous and unfillable.
But I know many people on this board have had bad experiences with Samsung. I, for one, would tell you to stay away from Whirlpool. Ours was a complete POS that never really worked well despite multiple service calls. Good luck!

The appliance guy recommended kitchenaid/whirlpool/Maytag. Said they are all the same brand and in his experience they last the best. He said ours is a fluke issue but generally they last a good long time.

It’s entirely possible that ours was a fluke issue as well. The guy that answered our service call didn’t have kind words to say about the make and model of our fridge. Seals and gaskets were missing and the compressor had to be replaced within the first two years.
But, really, that could probably happen in any brand. I would just hope that the manufacture decides to make adjustments to ongoing production with those instances in mind.

Our old house came with a refrigerator that had the freezer on top. Our new house has a side by side. I hate it. I’ll keep it until it dies but some day I’ll have a freezer on top. We always keep a garage refrigerator and freezer for over flow.
The French door side by side has less practical freezer space and not great use of fridge space. And no good place to chill wine 🍷!
You MUST, must, must be able to turn off the ‘open door’ alarm. Or at least hear it and be okay with the sound of the chime.

I actually love the door alarm!! My kids are forever not shutting the fridge all the way and this lets me know. I’m not sure why it would bother someone?

We just got a whirlpool French door with freezer on the bottom and ice/water dispenser. I love it because it has three produce drawers and a deli drawer, the and the bottom shelf is called a tray drawer so it pulls out. The freezer has in door pizza storage.

I know multiple people who hate the chime, but I love mine! We have French doors and they sometimes look closed when they aren't. If we didn't have the chime, the fridge would be partially open all the time.

Oh, we have this on our Samsung french door and it doesn't bother me. The only time it's annoying is when I'm putting away groceries and then I just deal with it for the 10 minutes it takes me to get stuff put away. Any other time, it's because my kids or DH leave it open, and then I'm really happy to have it.

Ours sends notifications to our phones so I’ll usually get a text from H while he’s at work with “Close the fridge.” Lol I’m putting groceries away. Mind your business.

I'm curious...why? It's one thing I miss about the fridge at our old house.
The fridge we have now has a lovely chime when the door is open too long. The fridge before had a chime that was awful. Truly awful. With no off button. I was so damn happy when that fridge died.
May 2019 H and I bought an LG fridge with french door (water/ice on one of the doors) and freezer on bottom. We love it! Unfortunately we are leaving it for the next owners of our TH when we sell (hopefully) next month.
We replaced our LG that died. I do not recommend LG
Holy crap almost 5k? Damn. No wonder it is a good fridge, lol.
Ours has taken a shit too. The bottom freezer compressor keeps freezing over. I have spent too much time with a hairdryer de-freezing it
I am glad to read these reviews at least. I figure we may as well replace the oven and microwave since none of them match, lol. No Samsung. Good to know.

I am surprised the doors don’t automatically swing shut. We have an old whirlpool with one big fridge door on top and a bottom freezer. I love it because it automatically swings shut which is awesome because my kids are wasteful jerks

Do you mean match in finish or brand? I would want the same finish, but having the same brand would be unimportant to me. I am not convinced that any manufacturer excels at every type of appliance.

No, no, we ain’t fancy, just the same finish :)We have a new stainless steel dishwasher, our old white fridge we brought to this house, an off-white old oven and another odd color microwave, lol. It is a mess. We are planning on gutting our kitchen and was trying to hold off of buying new appliances but the fridge is shit and it is cheaper to buy a “bundle” package or whatever.

See Samsung. Horrible refrigerators. The doors definitely don’t swing shut. You have to push them to get them to close all the way.
It’s not a huge deal, but the door alarm is a helpful tool.
Do not buy one with a linear inverter/compressor. It doesn’t matter the brand. They will not last.
Hm. We have this. I only know we do because it says so on the front of the fridge. It's 4 years old and so far so good :::knocks on everything:::: It's an LG.
We also have a Samsung fridge in the basement that's AT LEAST 6, but probably more than 10 years old and it's fine too. It only makes crushed ice which is weird, but not the end of the world. Actually, now that it's in the basement it's not even hooked up to water anymore so it doesn't make any ice anymore.
ETA: Anyway--apparently we have a very small fridge hole so our options for fridges are limited. The LG was our only option when shopping that fit our fridge hole, but still had in door water and ice.
