Hybrid school started last week Monday. Today our county reported 27 new cases. The highest it's been before today was 11(that i can recall). Correlation is not causation, but i can't help but think the increase is because of schools. (They're hybrid, 2 days a week, masked, etc. We kept B virtual so she is not going into the classroom)
What I saw happen around us once school started was that people let their guard down. It’s like they figured that kids were already exposed to each other at school, so they could play together after school...or do other things. Generally unmasked. We haven’t seen any outbreaks at schools where kids are masked. Any school that has had multiple positives have been because those kids were together somewhere else unmasked. COVID is way out of control here, but it doesn’t seem like schools are the issue.

Could be but not necessarily. Anecdote, obvs, but our school has been open full time in person for 9 weeks and (knock on wood) no cases in students, teachers or families. When we met with CHOP last week, they seemed to indicate that schools are doing a good job of layering preventatives (masks + distancing + lots of handwashing + outside time + sanitizing between classes, etc.). I hope it stays this way because being in school, even like this, is so much better than being fully remote for my students (and me).
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

We are at 28.8 cases per something. 30 means no more hybrid school. My autistic child who is in a self contained classroom with 6 kids will be full virtual if/when we go full remote. (stats lag 2 weeks so no doubt we are already there).
It pisses me off so much for ALL THE REASONS but especially because he is in such a tiny pod and his pod does not mix with anyone. They are in a full sized classroom with an exterior door so there is very little risk (and all the kids are mask compliant). But meanwhile another district that had to pull the trigger kept sports going. RAGE. I HATE EVERYTHING.
SusanBAnthony We are getting close to going to hybrid for my kids per the recent numbers.
They go in person 4 days a week currently. The reality of me managing them doing hybrid while I work hit me. I think when we started we knew it was inevitable, but still.

The new guidance is to consider a number of factors, including whether there is spread in the schools, not just the numbers in the county.
