This is actually a huge deal. The owner has been very explicit that he was never going to change the name, so it's not nothing that they have officially announced they are retiring it. There is apparently some trademark issue that needs to be worked out and the reason they cannot announce the new name.
I acknowledge this point. However, all the news last night said this was going to happen, and then it happened with no additional information. LOL!
I agree. It has that feel of trying to drum up publicity for something you've done wrong and are correcting. Stop it with the drama and just fucking change it. Or if you can't, don't make it into a whole production.
That...seems like quite a risk. I don't think Dan Snyder is the kind of guy to just "cut a check" and not deal with lawyers, lol.
Dan Fucking Snyder has no one to blame but himself for this shit. He's so hated, I bet someone will rep the realtor pro bono. Ha.
Oh I hope he does get a huge payout. I just feel so defeatist about victory for the little guy and I think this guy is overly optimistic to hope there won't be a fight. I hope he wins. But there will be a fight.

Snyder loves money, though, and the loss of the revenue from major sponsors was too much. Racism - fine, money - too far in that asshole's mind.
Also, not a football fan at all, as evidenced by the fact that this post and the article taught me that the name of the team refers to Washington, D.C. and not the state.

Read the statement - he mentions sponsors first in two places. He's an ass. I was really hoping he'd throw a tantrum and say he was selling the team because he was being forced to change the name.

Ah got it. I am a former season ticket holder, so I have extremely low expectations of Dan Snyder. Extremely.
Now to read more about how Dan Snyder ruined my former favorite football team.
Edit: Not sure how many of you actually follow the DC news, but there were some really odd departures in the last week - including Larry Michael that meant something was up - oh surprise - they are all disgusting men and when the team got wind of the story they finally did something.

I don’t know why i read the comments on Twitter. People are awful and terrible.
So the team from Washington had one HR person? Wtf. And their response to that is basically well we hired another one?
My friend was an intern at the Steelers and she had awful interactions like this too. Men used to ask her to stand and turn around in a circle so they could look at her body. She was young, in college, and was obviously in an unbalanced power situation. We’ve been out of college for quite sometime but I still remember all of her stories.

Also I doubt that they got fired because the team got wind of it.
The team got wind they were about to be exposed and that’s why they were fired. I have no doubt upper management knew exactly what was going on the whole time.
Late to the discussion, but definitely agree it was way too fucking late.
I grew up in the area, my godfather worked for the team, and some of the players from the 1983 Super Bowl winning team came to my baptism. I was born to live and love the team.... but I stopped rooting for them ages ago because of 1) the name and 2) Snyder. I fucking hate Snyder.
I am glad they are finally changing the name and I hope Snyder sees a huge financial hit because money is all the asshole cares about.
And HOLY SHIT to the bombshell dropped about sexual harassment. Ugh.
I was born in DC, raised in the DMV, and we used to sing HTTR in elementary school music class. I grew up worshipping various players.
And I recall my generally not woke dad telling me the name was a gross ethnic slur when I was a kid.
The name combined with CTE, domestic violence, and FLSA violations for cheerleaders led me to stop watching any football about 10 years ago, but I’m glad this happened.
I guess the Washington Sentinels rumor is no more then. Not even Keanu could help them, lol.
I was rooting for the Redtails personally.
I think I saw something from a Tuskegee vet who said he didn’t think they deserved Red Tails because they lose all the time and have terrible attitudes.
