How often do you shop or get new quotes for your insurance?
My homeowners has gone up several hundred dollars every year and I’m wondering if I need to get quotes before paying my renewal this year.
For some reason my auto insurance went down almost $1000 when I shopped it this year. Even my agent was shocked and thought he did something wrong! He had no idea why.
I use an insurance agency that represents multiple carriers, and they do it for me, every year. This year I got my bills for my annual auto, umbrella, and homeowners', and noticed that my umbrella went up >10%. Within a few days my agent was on the phone proposing a switch to another carrier, with a quote. This is fresh in my mind because we just made the switch 2-3 weeks ago.
It doesn't cost me any more money to use an agent, and since they do stuff like this for me, it saves me money and time doing all the quotes/shopping myself. They would also be available to help if I had a claim. I'm amazed more people don't use local agents. I love ours.
Susie I use a local agent, but he doesn’t automatically shop every year for me. I have to call him and request it. You should like you have a good one!
I shop every few years. I just did mine about 2 months ago and while they were cheaper on certain parts, overall they were higher. I’m glad I didn’t switch also because my current carrier is giving 10% back for every policy renewing between 6/1 and 12/1 which will be a lot for me.

I have twice in the past 10 or 15 years that I’ve been with our current insurer. Both times I wasn’t able to come close, so I don’t bother checking that often.
