I'm still off work from my surgery. I could go back, but eh. I took the time off and I have it to use, so here I am. I had to wrestle my way into a bra because I have some workmen coming today. I chose a sports bra because I thought it would be comfy. WRONG! I'm icing my shoulder cause of how much it hurt stuffing myself into it.
pixy0stix I hope you enjoy your time off and recovery is going well. One of my good friends has had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders in the past 2 years. I remember she bought some special front closing bras for that exact reason. Not sure how I've never dislocated a shoulder trying to wrestle myself out of a sweaty sports bra all these years. Its not easy.
This weekend a bottle of perfume fell off a bathroom shelf and shattered all over the place. It happened in the master bath so I've been trying to get the strong smell of perfume out of both the bathroom and our bedroom. We mopped the floor multiple times, put some baking soda in the bathroom, and I think I will try coffee grinds next. Unfortunately the bathroom has no windows (only a fan) and I'm trying not to open our bedroom window too much since it's so hot outside.
This is what I get for trying to hang a shelf using 3M Command strips. I just haaaaaate putting holes into the wall and even though I put light stuff on the shelf, after a couple of days it just fell. And peeled some paint in the process so I have to fix the wall too. Ugh.

Try some vinegar in a shallow dish.
I did see the recommendation for vinegar but I'm afraid to use it on my floors since the instructions for floor care on these tiles say water and some special soap only. Maybe I'll try vinegar in a small area and see what happens.
This is my crunch week. Last week of grad school (one presentation and one group project left to finish), H is starting full-time work for the first time since before the pandemic, I have several appointments out of the house for my own job, the dog has a routine vet appointment, and the FREAKING CALENDAR where I wrote everything down is missing.

I’d just use it in dish on the counter to help absorb the smell, not necessarily clean with it. I’ve had luck doing the small dishes placed thru the house for smoke smells. A dish of baking soda might also work.
The small chest freezer that DH ordered in March just as shit was starting to hit the fan here, finally arrived and he picked it up yesterday. I still need to figure out a good way to organize it, but being able to free up some space in our side-by-side is great and now I actually have room to put in a stock of meats, frozen veggies and fruit. I feel very relieved.
It took 5 calls, but I finally have a gyn appointment this month! Actually, I have two, with two different hospital systems. Plan on weighing my options. My cancer scan last week had some unpleasantness in my uterus. My onc says he’ll will clear me for a hysterectomy, and to get in ASAP. My PCP and old onc (who I still talk to quite regularly) were a bit calmer about it. Pretty sure new onc was making up for missing it until I asked what it meant.
We have finished all of our house projects (other than waiting on carpet upstairs), and I'm on to buying some new shelving units. The one I want won't be delivered until next week. I'm DYING to have the living room finished, so much so that I'm thinking of buying one I really don't love as much just so I can have it sooner and be done.
pixy0stix when do you go back? Maybe we could grab a socially distant outdoor beer this week?

Was this a rotator cuff repair? I have to do this and am really not looking forward to the sling and not being able to use my right arm for weeks. I hope you heal fast, it's no fun!

Nothing so drastic. I had a bone spur that was digging into my bursa sac and burring up my rotator cuff. They went in and smoothed everything out.

Ahh, I have a bone spur (and impingement syndrome) so they will do that as well. I cannot wait to get it done, I was on crutches/a cane for over a year and it just shredded my rotator cuff. I have to have one more hip surgery and then I can do it! 🎉. I hope you heal quickly!
I really don't like the phrases "hug your neck" or "squeeze your neck" when people are saying how much they miss you want want to just give you a hug. I mean, I already don't like hugs; why do you want to strangle me with your love!?!?
Also I could do without the phrase "Love on" as in "We just really need to love on our friend." I don't want you to get that on me either. You might stain my dress.

I got a verbal job offer. I'm so excited as it's exactly what I was hoping for, it's 4 days a week and the salary is higher than I think the other jobs I'm interviewing for that are 5 (and sometimes 6) days a week. It also has the large possibility that I could become medical director in 6-8 months. The only thing that is risky is that yearly it depends on state and local grant/budgeting, so it took them awhile to get me the offer while they waited for budgets with all this covid nonsense. So that might be a problem again next year, but I think I should take the job once I get the written offer. The hope is that I could help grow the work they do so they wouldn't have to rely on those budgets so much and I already have some good ideas. Also the other jobs are just kind of "regular" jobs without as much growth/leadership opportunity, so I think I should take the risk.
I have 3 potential follow up interviews later this week and I'm just over everything, so I hope I get the written offer by the end of this week and can end this virtual interviewing torture.
I'm finally finally going to be making a real doctor salary. Paying off 300k+ in student loans here I come!
wanderingback, not to be nosy - and please don't feel like you have to answer me, I just hope this is still in some capacity in women's reproductive rights because the work you do right now is just so amazing.

You're killing me with laughter here.
My east Texas family got me into saying, "hug your neck." Squeeze your neck sounds like a strangling in the works. Hug your neck does kind of remind me of a big brother pulling a little brother into a chokehold and giving him noogies on his scalp, lol!
Pixy, i hope you feel better. I switched to sports bras that clasp in the back like regular bras after I had a sore shoulder for a couple of weeks trying to get out of a sports bra. Yikes!
As for me- getting a COVID test on Wednesday. Have felt very run down, sinus congestion. That has turned into a clear case of tonsilitis, as confirmed through my virtual health visit. But I had a hard time staying awake all weekend long and felt a bit disoriented so the doc wants me to have the COVID test to make sure I don't have a mild form of it given i am higher risk.
The Houston area is blowing up with COVID. Our hospital is crazy busy. I can thankfully work from home but it is some scary stuff. I called for my test and they said it would be July 15 before they could get me in - until i said I am an employee. So they can see me Wednesday as an employee. I feel for those who don't have the fast track access I have. 10 days quarantine at home PLUS test result time before one could go back to work. UGH!

I have never heard any of those phrases! They’re disturbing.
pixy0stix I had best luck with stretchy lounge bras that I could put my bad arm through, then pull all the way over my head and my good arm. I even found some padded ones that had decent support.

Ooh! Which ones?
If you're not super busty or you're perkier than me, Coobie is comfortable. I wear them to bed, but not out of the house.
We're starting our kitchen refurb this week. So far we've had our washer and dryer moved out of the kitchen and put into a closet on the 2nd floor (American 2nd floor, English 1st floor). It's very normal to have the washer/dryer in the kitchen but moving it to this closet (which already had the cold water pipe and waste pipe going through it due to a powder room next door) will allow me to have more storage as well as a wine fridge.
Today the fitter is coming to start the demo. I'm not looking forward to not having a kitchen during the pandemic, but at least more places have opened up for takeout.
If anyone is into renovations, feel free to follow the work on my blog.
I mostly lurk these days. The new job (started back around thanksgiving) just doesn't leave me much spare time.
But, later today I am going to a followup with my gyno's office from an ultrasound I had last week. The nurse who did my consult immediately following the ultrasound basically said my options right now range from "watchful waiting" up to hysterectomy, due to some fibroids that are giving me issues.
My emotions have been all over the place since the test last week. The brain, of course, went to the worst case. Because, I won't hit menopause for another 7-10 years, based on family history. And that is a shitty long time to continue dealing with these issues. And then part of me is thinking, wtf! My cycle issues have been going on for _ages_, and have been continually blown off until now -I guess the docs have decided I am finally old enough to even suggest that as an option.
Anyways, still feeling all weird about the appointment. I have a list of questions, and DH is taking time off work to join me at the appointment. (The clinic allows one healthy adult to accompany for appointments right now, I checked.)

I couldn’t do front-clasp bras because I couldn’t do them up with one hand. Same with pants — I was in pull-on pants for the entire 8 weeks I was in the sling.

Were you able to set up a kitchen-type area somewhere else in your house? Between electronic appliances (microwave, electric skillet, crock pot) and the grill, we actually managed to eat pretty well when we were doing our kitchen renovation.
lemoncupcake, we have our toaster & microwave set up and can use the crock pot (in storage but accessible). Talked to the guy and he's said we can access our fridge any time (we're keeping that one piece). We'll also be able to get to the grill and just got some gas so happy to use that as long as it's not raining (which seems to be happening a lot right now - boo).
