Anyone (or their kid) use one? My 12 year old wants one for school this year but I need to know how durable they are and if the straps are comfortable? She usually has a lot to carry back and forth. Will it hold up?

My DD has the regular size one. She used it for 8th grade. Her school doesn't have text books and she doesn't need to bring home her chromebook, so all she really needs is a notebook or 3, her planner, water bottle and lunch, for school, and maybe a light sweater, and it is fine for that, but it won't hold her winter coat. She walks or rides her bike to school, and never complained about the straps back in normal times. I would say that is is very well made. Still looks brand new, and she has had it for 2 years. She has a much larger backpack she used on days she had ice skating after school, in before times, but the Kanken fit inside it, so she could carry that around school, and leave the skates in her locker.

I have one. They are quite durable. I can't remember how to search it, but they normally come with straps that aren't padded so make sure you get the ones that are, otherwise they can dig into your shoulders.
Its a very basic backpack that doesn't have a lot of frills or anything.

DD (14) has had one for at least a year. Used it every day for school and it's still in great shape. It isn't huge though, depending on how much your daughter will want/need to put in it (although I'm not sure if we got the biggest size).

Do you know what size you have? We just went to the store today and DD1 (starting middle school) tried on the laptop 15. I think that is a good size for her. She liked it and thought she could get her stuff in for school (assuming traditional school items)

It's the standard Kanken backpack that says it's volume is 16L. DD's school doesn't allow kids to bring backpacks to class so they all carry these huge 3" zipper binders. She couldn't fit that in her backpack but it easily held everything else she needed (books, lunch, planner, water bottle, etc).
My 12 year old has one. We got it last year before she started 6th grade. It seems to have held up well. It isn’t huge but she hasn’t had any issues with the size. They don’t use textbooks so all her school stuff seems to fit. She walks to school (back when they went to school) so it gets a lot of use and she said the straps are not uncomfortable.
