Sweet Jesus, I just read that Sturgis, the bike rally in South Dakota is still on for next week.
I have no words.
We returned from a vacation in that area last night. Everything we did was outdoors, and I felt that most people were wearing masks in the more popular areas like Devils Tower. We started seeing a ton of bikes Friday and Saturday, even though its next weekend, but that is typical. A friend that has family in the area said that if they would have officially canceled it, people still would have come, and this way they can still have some safety measures in place like extra law enforcement. Not sure what that all entails since I am not really familiar with what all goes down, but she made it sound like because its the 40th 80th anniversary, they expected a large draw regardless.

I really want to discuss this in the new thread tomorrow too. Scientists worry about the push for a vaccine, especially if there’s an “October surprise.”
And get a load of more bullshit from Jared. I volunteer him for the Trump October surprise vaccine first.
“ The president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, who is helping to steer the re-election campaign from the White House, is a regular participant in meetings of a board formed to oversee the vaccine effort.”
“ In Mr. Azar’s conference room at the Department of Health and Human Services headquarters, Mr. Kushner and Dr. Birx join meetings with Mr. Azar, Mr. Esper and others. Mr. Kushner repeatedly pushes the group to move faster and has deputized two close associates, Brad Smith and Adam Boehler, to press the case.”

Seems like a good way to get everyone to forget his disastrous handling of the virus: I’ve made a vaccine! It’s the best vaccine! No one makes vaccines like me.

I agree with this part below of the article, in that I don't think it'll have much affect on the election. I think if it does happen in Oct this will be another misstep because it really does seem implausible that they just started trials on a larger amount of people this month to test the effectiveness and then in 2 months it's going to be approved to go to market. So people are going to be like wtf?! I know Russia says they're about to start a vaccine campaign. Who knows if we'll get correct data, but it'll be interesting to see how that goes.
"It is not clear that a vaccine approval shortly before the election would be an “October surprise” sufficient to alter the outcome of the vote. An announcement could give Americans hope that the end is in sight. But some Republican strategists said that it might not help Mr. Trump because his opponent, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., the presumptive Democratic nominee, would surely continue the vaccine process if elected. “Does it turn everything around for him politically? I don’t know,” said Sarah Longwell, a conservative strategist and prominent Republican opponent of Mr. Trump who regularly conducts focus groups and has found that public attention is more focused on government relief checks and school reopenings. “If the vaccine is an October surprise, there’s a lot of other things that are cutting against” it as a game-changer, she said."
