Here’s a tweet with the video in which he says a big portion of the price is going to have to come into the treasury (about 1:15 in the video)

I get that TikTok has some serious security concerns, but I feel like this is the start to a slippery slope that is going to end very badly.

I don't use WeChat personally, but I know it is the best way for our school to communicate with our Chinese students when they're not on campus (which is probably all of the 2020-21 school year) and how they do a lot of their group work with other students. This will be a huge deal for higher ed.

This and we're expecting retaliation with US-based technology - I'd be shocked if Zoom can get over the firewall for much longer.

It’s the easiest way we can connect with my cousin who’s in China. WeChat is downloaded on my phone, guess I’m never getting a new one until he’s home.

Same with my brother. This is a really petty concern in light of everything going on in the world, but I will be sad to lose our years of chat history.

And marketing for companies with an international presence.

I haven't seen anything from Apple and Google if they will comply. This sets up an interesting battle over the Government's ability to monitor what goes on in the app/play store.
