Just in case people need a reminder not to be lazy about it like I was...I usually scan the charges on my credit card bill before I pay it, but not too closely. Recently we had a fraudulent charge to the tune of $1600 which forced us to change our account #, etc. At the same time we were better able to see the list of recurring charges. It's amazing how much stuff I had missed while scanning. For example, DH has a $5 monthly subscription to Medium, but I hadn't realized they were charging us $5 *twice* a month. Little stuff like access services that when I asked him about he was like, "Oh, yeah, we can probably drop that one." We ended up dropping probably close to $50 a month in little $5-dollar charges.
I don't know if every credit card does this, but we actually had a little section of our Account Center I never noticed called "Recurring Charges" that let me see these very easily.
The way I do my budgeting, I track every expense thru my app, so I know quickly if there were other charges when it doesn’t match the credit card-but recently, to your point, I was charged for a renewal on a magazine H wanted-I didn’t even recall giving them the ok to auto bill it. It is/was a good thing to look at the bill because instead of the $10 they charged for initial subscription, it was $45 and the magazine wasn’t worth that.
