How much of a pain (financially and logistically) is it to clear out and replace insulation?
What we’ve got in there is probably 50+ years old, deteriorating, and definitely not doing any insulating. Ideally we would replace what’s in the attic, and in the crawl space/attic area off DD’s room, follow replacement with putting down a subfloor so that we can use it for storage.
We are WFH, so anything that is protracted is probably a project for another year. No idea cost wise what it would be.. not sure if it’s even worth having quotes for it at this time.
I haven’t done it, but my understanding is that most companies would typically just blow new stuff on top of old. Also, being that old, it may have asbestos, which would require mitigation to remove, which is additional time/cost.
mrspez07, I worried about the asbestos factor also. I honestly have no idea how old it is, but it does look like the batting type vs loose fill and google tells me it’s less likely (but not guaranteed not) to be asbestos.
