I got an email from Nordstrom Rack today about a North Face sale event. I Clicked to check it out because I need a new winter coat. Anyone familiar with how North Face fits?
There are a bunch of parkas under $200 ... and the Arctic II parka is marked down to $35.99 (from $299). But only in black and only size L or 3XL.
I’m debating if I should order the 3XL to try. Normally I wear a 1x or 2x, depending on the brand and fit of the shirt or coat. The reviews all say that North Face runs a bit small so I’d normally go with a 2x, but is a 3XL worth a $36 gamble? I can always return it, right? I figured the sizing might work out because I’ll likely have multiple layers underneath, but I’m short and the sleeves might wind up being too long.
If it helps, I tried on a 1x Michael Kors parka last year at Macy’s Backstage (and stupidly waited too long to go back and buy it - all the coats were gone by the time I got back) and it fit really well. So if I don’t buy this North Face coat, or if I do and it doesn’t work out, I’ll probably end up ordering a MK parka from Macy’s before winter arrives.

Is it returnable? If I wasn’t sure, I’d order both and return one. I have a Rack 5 minutes away though, so it’s easy to take online returns back in person.
So, I just went poking around because I didn't realize NorthFace had plus sizes. I have a XL fleece jacket from them back when I was a size 12, which I am decidedly no longer.
I'm looking at their website and their sizes run L, XL, XXL, 3X. In my brain that's probably a 2X and not a true plus-size 3X.
ETA: Never mind? I just clicked on another jacket that is 1X, 2X, 3X... so maybe different sizes for different styles? I still maintain the one above is probably more a 2X, but maybe they go up to actual 3X in other styles.

I agree it runs a bit small. I’m usually between a l and xl due to my busy and broad shoulder and go with a xl with north face. I find their pants true to size.
I might try it because I have a Rack nearby that I could return to without paying return shipping, and what the hell. If I didn't have a good way to return for free, I probably wouldn't roll the dice because I feel like the odds are less than 50% that 3x would fit. Sounds like 2x might be ideal.
