Since our public schools are online I asked DH about private schools, but he said no.
But we are paying a nanny for supervision of online learning. Any chance we could use 529 funds for that? Or that they might change the tax code to allow for that due to the pandemic?
We do have other funds, but I am exploring my options since this was not planned or budgeted for, and in order for me to help would involve taking FMLA which is limited to 12 weeks. And intermittent leave would require a very wonky schedule of working from home, second shift and FMLA.
I expect the online learning supervision will be needed until May 2021.

You can’t use a 529 for a nanny but I’m pretty sure you can use FSA dollars, which at least will help with the first $5000.
You should also look into any benefits that your employer might offer. If you work for a large company, it’s possible you have some backup care coverage (both H and I do and we’re in completely different industries.)
I don’t think there will be much political momentum around this. There are so many people who need money because they’re NOT working that I think this (supporting working parents) is where private industry needs to step up.

Thanks. I know I don’t have back up care coverage, and pretty sure DH does not, but I will check with him. I do qualify for FFCRA and my company will allow me to work from home. However, we are public facing so a big part of my job is being there in person at least part time.
As the pandemic drags on I wonder if they will extend FFCRA another 6 months or year. I would hate to take leave now, but still need an option in the spring.
Our funds (I think) cover the nanny until Dec. After that, they may just have to do e-learning partially in their own. DH is home but on calls all day so is only available for injuries type stuff.
