I mentioned in the randoms that I woke up with back pain this morning. But it's weird, it's not the normal kind of back pain that I get. I'm realizing that my spine doesn't actually hurt at all. The pain is my right, lower back area, above the hips but below my rib cage. When I push on the area it is very tender. The pain is worse when I move, but if I push in while trying to walk, it actually helps to relieve the pain some. I have no other symptoms that lead me to believe it is Kidney related, no fever, no urination issues or anything like that. The pain is a dull stabbing when I'm sitting or lying, but never completely goes away. I'm trying to decide what to do. I throw out my back often and it's never something that I call the doctor over, just take meds and rest, but also, I don't want to end up in the ER over the weekend. Just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with something similar. Also, I did take 800mg of Advil this morning and it didn't even touch the pain.
I think you mentioned a wave of pain in a different thread --- that is what I get when I have kidney stones. It usually comes up from my bladder area to my upper abdomen. So not a place you would usually think. Sometimes I have pain in the lower back/side, but not always. My advice is drink a ton of water. If it is intolerable pain, I would consider a doctor.
Sounds like a kidney stone, you should go in before it gets real bad. When it gets bad, it's sssoooooo bad, so go in now and hopefully they can resolve it sooner rather than later. Good luck.
My thought was kidney stone. It shouldn’t hurt in the kidney until it starts to move then there’s pain, blood, etc. The ER can’t do much but push lots of fluids, pain meds, and confirm its size. You still need to go in because they can be too large to pass and that causes a lot of pain and problems. Confirming size is important.
If the stone starts to block urine flow, you will know. The pain is so awful. Last time, I paced around the Urgent Care then ER. They kept asking me to sit but the pain was so bad that I just walked and walked until they gave me tordal.
EDIT - blood may not be visible but still present.
I had pain like that for several days, gradually getting worse. Turned out to be several kidney stones, which I only figured out after I passed them at home. If it’s a kidney stone, I would definitely not recommend waiting it out at home. It gets really, incredibly painful.

Yep, sounds like kidney stones. When I had mine, it presented as awful back pain that wouldn't go away, no matter in what position I sat or laid down. I ended up needing surgery to remove mine.
Thank you everyone. I did consider going to the ER last night, but first decided to try a Tramadol and that helped so I was able to get some sleep. The pain was really awful, i ended up laying in bed at 6:30 and just stayed there the rest of the night and now I’m really thinking it might be Kidney related, especially because it is 95% gone this morning. I woke up several times overnight to waves of pain, but they’re pretty much gone today. The area on my back is still pretty tender, but not as bad as yesterday. I’ve had plenty of muscle strains in my life but none that resolved this quickly which is making me think Kidney. I don’t know why my body hates me. 4 years ago I was hospitalized for emergency gallbladder surgery and last year I was hospitalized for a wicked Diverticulitis attack. I’m over it.
Thank you for you asking! Strangely enough, as horrible as the pain was on Friday and overnight Friday, I felt almost normal by Saturday afternoon. The only lingering issue is that the spot where the pain was emanating from on my back is still really tender to the touch. My Mom thinks that I have Kidney infection, but I don't know, since the horrible pain is gone. Probably unrelated, but I started getting a sore throat yesterday and the glans in my neck are a bit swollen, but still no fever or any other symptoms that lead me to believe I have any kind of infection. I'm really stumped.
Look into your gallbladder. I had gall stones and had to have my gallbladder removed.
I actually had my gallbaldder out 5 years ago, but this pain reminded me of that, so at first I was thinking Kidney Stones, but I don't think that pain just goes away overnight, so I don't know!
If it was a kidney stone, once you pass it, the pain goes with it. It’s truly wild.
I’ve only ever had small stones that pass their own. I’ve never seen them. It’s perfectly possible that you passed the stone, the swelling of your kidney resolved easily and you’re good to go.

I was thinking of you because I felt like I had a UTI for about 24 hours. But I chugged water, took a painkiller, and put in one of those warming pads left over from recent C-section and felt amazingly better

May you continue to feel good!
This happens to me regularly. Lots of water definitely helps. I also add some pure cranberry juice to my water sometimes. It’s too tart for me to drink straight.
