January weekend getaway

Hi there! I'm thinking of taking a weekend trip in January, a Fri-Mon deal with H & our 2y/o. We're in Boston, so I'd like to go somewhere warm and easy to get to. Maybe southern FL? Any suggestions on where to go and/or when to book for best rates?

My favorite south Florida destination is Miami - beach, shopping, great restaurants, plenty of hotel options with nice pools, etc. Clearwater Beach is a beautiful beach, but less to do overall. January may not be beach weather in Florida, though it will be warmer than Boston of course.
