How was your refinance handled when it came to approving the mortgage and signing all the paperwork and stuff? Did they just work through emails, or did you have to go into an office?
We bought a house so it wasn't a re-fi but required docs to be signed. Everything was done via email except the signing. A notary came to the house and we sat outside. Hand Sanitizer was used, masks were worn and she stayed 6 feet away.
We’re closing on our refi today. We just got an e-signature packet to do some of the signing online and then we’ll go to an office this afternoon to finish what needs to be done with wet signatures. We have a mask ordinance in our town, so we’ll all be wearing masks and while I’m sure the office will have hand sanitizer, I’ll be bringing my own as well.
I live in MD and the state requires "wet" signatures so while we were able to do a lot online, we had to go into the office to sign many, many papers as well.

We did ours through a window at our house, LOL. We have a bistro set already arranged outside in front of one of our windows. On the inside, we set up a small table and a couple of chairs for ourselves. The lawyer put the papers at our front door, sat at the outside table while we picked them up, we cracked the window from the top so we could hear each other, and she was able to see and explain each page as we signed. It went really well and she said it was the best COVID setup she'd done so far.
The broker came to our house and dropped the papers out front. We got them and he watched us sign on FaceTime from his car. We put the papers back outside when we were done.
We did everything over the phone, email, and an online portal. We were able to do electronic signatures on some of the closing documents before hand, and for the actual signing, a notary came to our house and we sat out on our back patio with masks and maintaining social distancing.
We had to sign in person, but the night before we had a conference call and went over every page in detail over the phone. Then we just had to go and sign away because we already covered it all. We brought our own pens and wore masks, it was very quick.
We did a ton over email and then I got a POA for my H and went into the attorney's office solo. (Had a neighbor notarize POA in our driveway). Just attorney and I were in the office for closing. This was back in April.
A neighbor did a refi recently and I signed in their driveway as a witness.

They sent a mobile notary to the house. She was wearing a mask. We did the paperwork at the kitchen table but if we were at super high risk, I'm sure she would have accommodated us singing outside as long as we had a table to sit at.

I went to the closer's office and signed outside in what they called "carside." Everything else was online or via the phone. In MN, you have to sign in front of a notary somehow.
We went to the lawyer's office and had a carside closing with just the lawyer. He stood at the car window (masked) and read stuff to us and passed papers to us to sign.
Another person with a socially distanced mobile notary on our porch for closing. Prior to that, everything was electronic (for the one thing requiring a "wet" signature, we printed it and signed it and then scanned it right back in to send back).

We just sold our TH last month and same. We'll close on our new house in December (it's new construction and won't be done until then), and I'm sure it'll be the same as well.
ETA: we sat inside, but far apart and masks on. Hand sanitizer used.
We did everything online until closing, which had to be done in person. The notary came to our house. We sat in the back yard, but not quite 6 feet apart because we had to pass papers back and forth. We all wore masks and she also wore gloves. We all used our own pens.
I recently had to sign paperwork with an attorney and she had a table set up outside her office, similar protective gear, and also had a plexiglass shield dividing the table.

We did everything online and then they couriered is the paperwork. We were scheduled with an online notary who watched us sign through a teleconference feed. We then booked a courier to pick up the documents.
We did 99% of the work through email and online forms. We had to sign in-person, but the notary was only in the room when she absolutely had to be. Everything was sanitized and masks were worn. We were probably face to face with the notary for less than 5 minutes.
We just finalized yesterday. Most can be done in the car where the attorney reads the dox over the phone and then you sign. Ours was longer, so we went in office - all masked, new pens, we were left alone to sign, attorney came back and checked everything and then we were done. Took half hour due to the amount of paperwork.
Up to closing day everything was e-signature. Closing day we had a mobile notary at the house. We sat at different ends of our dining room table and wore masks. The weather wasn’t nice enough to be outside. I had our pens set out, she brought a box of new ones. I had hand sanitizer and wipes out at both ends of the table.

A closing attorney came to my house for the final signing. I also had to have a witness. We all wore masks, used hand sanitizer, and sat apart at the dining room table. Everything up to that was e-signing.
For my HELOC, I had to go to the bank. We sat over 6 feet apart, had masks on, and used hand sanitizer. The bank is only taking 1 customer per 30 minute appointment, so there were only me and 3-4(?) employees in there. The others were in their offices w/the doors closed.

We closed on our refi in early April. We did as much as we could with e-signatures but still had to sign a lot of papers with wet signatures. We went to the lawyers office and sat at opposite ends of a huge conference table with just us and the lawyer. We wore masks and brought our own pens. Papers were slide back and forth. Used hand sanitizer before and after.
