I'm just gonna wait until this thread spirals enough that someone accuses the OP of wanting to go to the house address and knock on the door. I have a feeling this is where the thread is heading.
I personally don’t have any energy to worry about $35. If you do, then go for it but don’t expect anything to happen.
Knock on door...
“Hi did you order $35 worth of McDonalds?”
“Uhh no there was some randomly left on our front door...we thought it was a prank.”
“Ok thanks”
Police have more important things to do. Even when credit cards get hacked they very rarely do anything.
Which is a pretty poignant argument about defunding the police so that they have time to investigate.
I don’t believe it comes down to time. It comes to getting subpoenas to get bank records, enforcing the subpoena, also most of the people who do this are overseas.
There was a story on Dateline or 60 minutes a long time ago...I’ll see if I can find it.
I'd be more worried about identity theft of all of my other information on file with Door Dash than this and take care to up those protections.
I have had my identity stolen, in the opening of new accounts, getting credit cards, withdrawing of money from my accounts, etc. way. The thief, through intense work on the part of an amazing credit union fraud officer, was caught. But the case and the process even with them in jail was so intense and a pain in a neck. I got pushback at every stage from police in making a report right up until they found out the thief was on camera. And even then got some pushback because the person was caught in a different state in which I live.
So, if you file a claim (which is likely overkill over a GC if the GC is restored and absolutely not if it's going to protect your identity from future theft--and unfortunately it's impossible to know now which it is), be prepared for a pain in the neck.
No worries friends, DoorDash made it right and refunded my credits. Since the hackers had access to my email, address, name, and at least the last 4 digits of the cc I had on file, I put a hold on that account.

I’ll look into freezing my credit today too.
And you should ground DD for at least a week, maybe 2!!
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but someone I follow on IG just posted in her stories about this same thing happening to her door dash account. It got straightened out, but a few days later her Walmart account got hacked and two large orders placed. So it seems like it might be a wide spread problem

Glad that you are freezing that account and protecting that card and your $. I still would probably not call the cops, but since you have the address maybe send them a glitter bomb or sand in a box or something like that. Or just an picture of your middle finger with a note that says, "screw you and your door dash stealing self" I think there are glitter and sand services. Or maybe even better sign them up for GOP and Trump mailing lists. They might not care, but at least you can laugh.
I can’t imagine anyone savvy enough to hack into your account would be dumb enough to place the order to their own home. Is there a way they could take that gift card # and sell it? Or was order placed directly from Door Dash (I know nothing about Door Dash, I’m sure that’s obvious lol)?
As someone who works in criminal justice, there are absolutely people who are dumb enough to do this. They also ship things directly to their houses that they have bought with stolen credit card numbers.
