The Silverado Fire has caused the evacuation of over 60k people in the Irvine area. I know I shouldn't be surprised, considering I lived right at the bottom of the hills that are burning for six years, but I am surprised the fire has moved down into the city instead of away from it. The winds are helping it along, of course. We have friends who have been evacuated and would have been evacuated if we hadn't moved from there. I'm hoping the structures don't burn and they have a home to come back to once it's put out. If only these winds would die down so they could get helicopters and planes in the air to drop water.
I hope if any of you are in the area that you stay safe!

I was an idiot and decided to take my kids to their well visit today nearer the 405, so well enough away from the fire. The smoke was awful and the smell was so strong. As soon as we got into the office they made the announcement that they were voluntarily evacuating and had to call all appointments for the rest of the day to reschedule. I really should have just stayed home.
Tustin hasn't ordered any evacuations yet that I'm aware. Just for some North Tustin neighborhoods by Peters Canyon to prepare for evacuation. I'm about 4 miles away from a corner of the mandatory evacuation zone. Last time we were about 1.5 miles away. I really can't see it getting much closer than that to us. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
My coworker just got a mandatory evacuation order a couple minutes ago and he's about 1.5 from the first mandatory evacuation zone. I'm surprised it made it's way all the way down there!

Yeah, I am as well! We saw pictures of spotty fires near the 133/Irvine Blvd/Sand Canyon area. I'm surprised it's gone that far, but I suppose I shouldn't be. There is a lot of brush around there and it is right off the open toll road. I'm nervous about it catching on all the dry brush around there though and continuing on towards the ocean. I'm just a big ball of nerves for everyone in that area right now.
We're really close to the mandatory evacuation areas, so we've packed bags and are probably going to leave later tonight as I'm not sure I'd sleep given how close we are to the fire and the windy conditions. All I can think of are those poor people in NorCal who had to flee in the middle of the night a few years back, and those poor souls who weren't able to make it out in time.
That’s right where we lived and I believe that same canyon burned in 2007 or so. There were many evacuations (but the area has grown since then), but no homes were lost. I’m hoping and praying that’ll be the case again this time.
My town lifted it's voluntary evacuations. The air and smell is terrible. I had to take my dog out at lunch until he would go to the bathroom. I was urging him to go quickly, but don't think it worked. lol The ash was falling like snowflakes, but not too terrible considering.
How is everyone doing? Thinking of all of you today.
We had our bags packed, all ready to go since there were mandatory evacuation zones on three sides of our location, but never ended up needing to evacuate. This afternoon and evening the surrounding areas were allowed back in so I'm finally feeling relaxed. Last night was rough. Air quality outside isn't great at all obviously, but we've been staying inside and using our air filter/cleaner constantly which helps a lot but I've had a headache since yesterday morning and of course lungs feel tight etc.
All in all though we're so thankful it wasn't worse. Keeping all those further south where the fire is still threatening communities in my thoughts.
