I’m way behind the times, but I just discovered menstrual discs and period underwear and my life has been changed forever. I’m just annoyed it took this long, ha.
(I guess I knew about period cups and discs — I actually had a box of the disposable ones sitting in my bathroom for ... a long time — but thought I couldn’t use them with an IUD. But I decided the risk is low/worth it.)
Three very random thoughts: I got my first manicure yesterday in I have no idea how long. My nails look pretty and more importantly my cuticles are finally not disasterous. Our 3 yr Golden is OBSESSED with tennis balls. She carries one around all the time, if it rolls under the couch she sits there and whines and stares at it. If if I’m sitting on the couch she drops it in my lap and stares at me until I do something with it. I swear it’s causing her anxiety. I made a reservation at a new church tomorrow am. I’m second guessing that decision and might cancel it.
It’s so chilly here! I guess I’ve been lucky because we’ve barely needed the heat yet but I’m still sad. I always hate winter and I’m really not looking forward to it now that we can’t go anywhere or do anything. We did order a tabletop tree because of the puppy and honestly, maybe we will just decorate it when it arrives next week? At least it would be festive? I honestly don’t care if we have a tree or not but it does look nice decorated and makes the room cozy. Now my husband is saying he wants to have two trees up next year—the tabletop one and the big tree so we need more ornaments. He’s the Jewish one. I guess its more of a novelty for him.
Oh, and my family’s big holiday baking traditions is black bottom cupcakes (we’d literally make hundreds of them each year) and my dad decided he’d try to make them this weekend himself. They have a chocolate cupcake base with a chocolate chip cream cheese topping you add before baking. He misread the instructions and mixed the two batters together. I am interested in seeing how that turns out! I’m not sure how he got confused because he’s made them with my mom (and us, growing up) many times. I think she even was making them before I was born so that’s like 40 years of practice. LOL
These were not very Halloween randoms though. Here are some. We are having a movie marathon with Hocus Pocus, the Lost Boys and Bell, Book and Candle and I’m making homemade shrimp toast for an appetizer.
I had a relaxing morning this morning, which I really felt like I needed. I caught up on This is Us, finished reading my book, and worked out (I guess that's not relaxing, but healthy at least). Now I'm trying to phone bank for the Democratic party in Iowa, and nobody is answering. I am not surprised - I have been getting multiple calls daily for weeks and I don't ever pick up, either, so I know people are getting slammed with calls. But it feels like a big waste of my time.
H and I are planning to watch some college football and have some snacks this afternoon when I'm done, and then watch a scary movie or two tonight. I am still unsure if anyone will stop by to trick or treat, so I can't decide if I want to turn on the light or not even bother. We have some candy but I didn't do baggies or any kind of fancy table at the end of the driveway setup (partly because we don't have a driveway, lol) so I'm not sure anyone would want our candy anyway.
We are just home today. The anesthetic they put in my hip after surgery has worn off so that's a bummer, lol. I'm just trying to keep up on pain relief and watch mindless TV. It looks so nice outside so I'm a little bummed to not be able to go out and enjoy it. I had this surgery last year on my other hip but I forgot how difficult it was to get around. My poor H has to lift my leg for me whenever I want to get up and down. This is going be a long 6 weeks 😳.
I am going to try and download some good books and find some movies to watch to distract myself for the next few days. I keep reading election coverage and I will drive myself crazy if I keep doing this all week.
I feel like such a grump. I do not want to take DS out. I have tons of candy for him to find, but he’s determined to go out. Also, my ILs live a street away, so we’re definitely going there at the very least. Ugh. I’m totally judging my neighbors who are all business as usual vs the ones that have tables set up on their driveways.
I asked my next door neighbor if she wanted to see DD in her Halloween costume, so as no not assume she wanted T&Ters. She is very special to us because DD trick or treated as a BABY and every year since. She said “absolutely” and it was fun to knock and get an annual photo.
She chatted with us and asked DD about school and sports. Then she said, more than once, “I don’t know why they don’t have games and tournaments?? They should. I don’t know why they don’t.”
Uhm.
Because of a global pandemic of a death spreading virus with no vaccine? Because of that.
The last few weeks have been...a lot but I'm feeling slightly better since a possible COVID turned out ok, we already and our kitchen demo is finally starting up again Monday - it has been since July 3. We carved pumpkins and DS9 dressed up in his costume (a surgeon) to make a gingerbread haunted house and visit my parents. I feel bad that we said no trick or treating but he doesn't seem to care - probably because DH just bought him two bags of candy just for him. 🙄

You can use all menstrual products with an iud! Glad you found something life changing for you

I came to visit my partner, but we haven’t really hung out much, oops.
Today I hung out with a friend. We went to our favorite piercing place and I got a rook piercing! I really like it. I’m waiting to see how long it takes my partner to notice, ha. They’re not doing any piercings or jewelry changes under the mask area, so I got a new nose stud, but I’m not 100% confident that I’m going to be able to change it without the bar falling through. So we’ll see.
My friend (another doctor) has her septum pierced. She doesn’t always wear the septum ring in at work though. I feel like I’m really getting interested in more piercings and thinking what should be my next one?!

I know it's not halloween anymore but I don't want to make a new random. My parents house was egged last night, my dad went on a FB tirade. oy. I JUST finished an assignment with two hours of video. omg. took 20 hours to edit. I set up the kids' new laptops, the ones they were using are owned by the school I am not a fan of spending $800 (total, for both) but they can't do flvs with the cheaper chrombooks because of course they can't.
