We are mid reno on our kitchen. We are loving our windows with nothing on them. So much light is let in. But the window over the sink faces our neighbors backyard and I want to put bamboo shades on that one for privacy if I need it.
Will it look weird if that’s the only window in my kitchen with a treatment? Is there some sort of “rule” on that?
I don’t think that’s weird at all. It might look strange if you had two windows next to each other that didn’t have matching treatments, but I think the kitchen sink window is an exception.
I think it's ok. I have a bamboo shade on my kitchen sink window and nothing on the slider. I also have nothing (just privacy film on the lower half) on the bathroom window, and nothing on the glass doors in the family room.
We have a shady lot and our windows aren't as big as I wish they were, so I'm all about letting as much light in as possible when privacy doesn't demand covering.
I don’t have anything on my kitchen window and some small square windows that are way up in the bathrooms. My 2nd story foyer window is also bare.
At our beach house we not only have nothing on the kitchen window, we also removed the screen so we could see the sound. The screen traps so much salt and sand.

We don’t have anything on the window in our dining area. While we really like the way it looks, we will most likely get some type of blind for it when we do our kitchen over because it faces west, and really we get a ton of afternoon sun ( and extra a heat in the summer).
I don't think it's weird, but you could try it and if it bothers you just add the window treatments to the other windows (leaving them open).
When we renovate, our kitchen will be in the front of the house so I'm planning to put plantation shutters on the front windows in the kitchen for privacy but not the other kitchen windows - hopefully it will look ok!
I would 100% never notice this on someone else's house.
I've always had something over all the windows, until our current house. We don't have anything on our slider that goes out to the deck, or the french doors that go to our backyard. At first I thought we'd get some, but the slider is the only window in our living room and it's nice to let in light. The back of our house faces a bunch of trees with a road behind them, so no neighbors can see into our house. I guess a car passing by could for a split second as they pass, but I am not too worried about that.
We have two sliding doors in our family and a huge window in our kitchen that are all basically one room. The sliders have curtains, but we left the kitchen window bare since mounting would be hard/awkward looking since we’d have to mount from the ceiling and butt up against the wall mounted curtains. I can’t imagine putting a window treatment up unless it were a privacy concern (which it’s not)
