Today is my baby sister’s 30th birthday, and I’m sad I won’t be seeing her.
We’ve had two marriage counseling sessions so far, and we both really like him, but omg, he’s a really slow talker. Both of us just want to be like, spit it out!
Someone posted on my neighborhood FB page asking for local business recs to keep her holiday shopping local. Of course, a bunch of #bossbabes replied about nail wraps and Plexus and shit lol. No, Brenda, your MLM is not a local business.
More studying today. I have my Managing IT final tomorrow and even though it's open note...whew, I barely understand most of the words said in that class so it doesn't help me much lol.
So we don't get to move on Saturday the 21st now. I'm so fucking pissed that the appraiser didn't get to our house on the scheduled day last week and no one thought to tell us! We have movers coming, appliances scheduled to be delivered, we already scheduled utilities/garbage/internet etc switch overs. Everyone is moving right now so movers are booked out into Dec. I was lucky to get Nov 21st. I called so many different companies. They all said no or had very little availability. So now we're looking at maybe the day before TDay to close which means we can't move until December. We might as well have kept our original close date of Dec 10th at this rate.

I found out yesterday that my dog has a malignant tumor. We're taking her to get xrays today to see if it's spread. I'm so scared. She is such a sweet love. We also literally got the news one year to the day since we had to put our foster dog to sleep.
DS2 cried out at 5:40 and then promptly went back to sleep. It woke me up and then I tossed and turned for 30 minutes or so. I got to sleep for a bit before my alarm went off, but I am struggling. I need a nap and I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet.
I am really over this proposal I’m working on. It’s getting submitted on Tuesday next week and I cannot wait to be done with it. I just got assigned something in a different market and am so happy to not be working with this group again for awhile.
While I was laying awake this morning, I was daydreaming about being able to go surprise DH’s grandparents in like May or June. Seems feasible if we can all get the vaccine by then. It’s been so long since we’ve seen them. I know next summer is still a long way off, but it’s feeling much closer now that we’re into the holidays.
macmars45, I would be raising holy hell. They need to figure out how to get the house appraised this week so you can close on time. I can’t believe they left the appraisal so late anyway! That’s a huge condition of the loan.
I've been trying to get a contract awarded at work literally for a month now, and it would be super if my contracting and legal departments could do anything in a timely manner. I know they're overloaded, but damn it's annoying to turn stuff around in 36 hours for them and then twiddle my thumbs waiting on them for the next week and a half. At this rate it's going to award right before Christmas which is so dumb, no one's going to be working!
I need to start putting more effort into Christmas shopping. I've got most of DD's stuff already, but haven't ordered DS's, and no idea what I'm getting DH or other family.

Unfortunately there's a huge shortage of appraisers here and that's the issue. Why they can't hire more to meet demand in this low interest market is the real issue IMO.
The first year of my work contract is coming up. I had a call last week about renewing it, and they were like, "Yes! Definitely! But we should do a review to give feedback as part of the renewal." Which is fine. But then they asked me to write my own review, with no framework or template or prompts or anything. Just... "Write a draft of your own review and send it to us to look at!"
I have always hated reviews. I really thought that moving to a contract position would eliminate them from my life. I really need to get it to them today, but I don't wanna.

DS2 had a well visit yesterday and our doctor encouraged to do some outdoor playdates despite the cold weather and surge as it is good for the kids' mental health. I'm trying to find a friend to do this for DD and everyone says it's too cold. It's 40s to 50s, toughen up! In normal years we wouldn't be setting up outdoor playdates at this time of year, but it's this or nothing.
The doctor I saw Monday for my biopsy could not do it, too much scar tissue from my endometrial ablation 5 yrs ago. So she gave me the choice of starting progesterone to see if things worked out or I can be put out for another way to attempt the biopsy. It seems odd to give that choice. Like you either think I need a biopsy or not...but only if it is easy? Oops, too hard, you don't really have to have it. So trying to decide what to do now. I'm not on any meds and don't really like the idea of taking a hormone just yet.
Ds3 seriously dislikes me. I’m not offended because it’s kind of funny how strong his daddy preference is but it is VERY annoying that he is so fussy when DH has to work and I’m watching him.
Poor Ds1 is having a hard time seeing me sad and is worried about his granny. He has told me and his teacher he is having a hard time controlling his emotions so we are going to have him talk to the counselor today. She’s already aware of the situation, we were just waiting for him to need her before an appointment. It’s so hard to see your kids hurting

My H got a bad yearly evaluation yesterday. I'm really angry about it. I mean, I am not there with him at work, but I know his work ethic and I know that he works a lot...and I know that he has brought in a lot of money for the company in this year. I wish he would just quit. It is a family business and he has always felt like an outsider. He is actively looking for a new position starting today.
I have physical therapy again this afternoon. My last session was really discouraging. I hope today's is better.

Ugh, same here, except it was a call for “small businesses.” The responses were basically all MLM. “I own an Herbalife business...” No. No you don’t.

We are interviewing candidates via Zoom for what amounts to the CEO position at my job. I'm a department head. At this point in the process, the only way they've involved department heads is in big group Zoom presentations. Which, ok, fine, since there will be another round after this where we bring our top 2 in for in person sessions. But the questions the candidates are asking relate directly to my department, and I'm only being asked to respond via emails. It is SO WEIRD to me. Maybe this is normal, and I'm just expecting too much. But it seems to me, given the questions the hiring committee has gotten, they'd want to schedule 30 minutes for the candidates to meet with me.
On the other hand, I hate being on hiring committees, and I certainly wouldn't want to be on this hiring committee, so keeping the questions to emails is probably fine. Whatever. At this point I just want them to hire someone b/c the way things are running now with our interim CEO isn't working.

The dog started barking at 4am for no apparent reason. So H and I were both awake and couldn't fall back to sleep. I think he finally fell asleep around 5, but I just ended up getting up around 5:30 and watched a few episodes of Schitt's Creek. I'm hitting a wall now and have a busy day at work.
I really need to get to the mall today at some point. I bought a jacket from JCrew online that I need to return and they don't have free return shipping. I seriously hate that... especially right now. Since our area is likely going to an "orange" zone (announcement to come later today) I want to get this returned before stores are shut down again.
I just learned that Clint Eastwood is 90, so I'm kind of reeling from that right now.
I'm seriously judging H's ex-wife. She's taking the kids to FL next week for 3 days. I mean, really? And I can guarantee they won't be quarantining when they get back, so that's awesome.
I cooked dinner for 3 days in a row and now I'm over it. Guess we're getting take-out tonight LOL
I realize I have been bitching about my kitchen for months but you guys, it has been since July 3 since we've had a fully functioning kitchen and it has been months since we've been down to the studs and plywood floors. Last month, most of the electrical work got done but it took the county until Monday to come out to inspect. This week the drywall is finally going back up and MAYBE, maybe we might get to have them start hanging cabinets Friday. I have no idea what the status of our flooring is and the countertops and backsplash are seeming like a 2021 thing. I feel like some people have built entire houses in that time.
I finally got my first Causebox yesterday, and I really liked it! I am not sure I really want to commit to paying for a full year subscription up front, but I think I'd like to get boxes in the future. Everything in it seems to be really nice quality. My H, who is like the least materialistic person ever, kind of rolled his eyes at me that I got it, though. I've never done a subscription box like this before, but it was fun to get some surprises in the mail!
I started a new anxiety medication last week, and I slept through the night the last 2 nights (or at least, until around 6am). Could be coincidence, but I hope not! I usually wake up at least once to pee, and usually multiple times to rearrange or whatever. I did sleep really poorly Sunday night, so it may not be a miracle cure, but I hope that it's related. It would be really nice to sleep like a normal human.

I work in contracting, although my current role isn't operational and I have the same thoughts. I don't understand why some people are SO SLOW. Legal is the worst for us though. I just had to send a fairly stern email to someone explaining the milestones are set and that they aren't getting moved.
I have 2 interviews today for summer interns. The first one went really well, so I'm hoping the second does also. I emailed a third for an interview, but never heard back.

No need to justify, this is totally something to bitch about. I hope that when it is finished it will be better than before to at least make some of this worth it. Please post pix when it's done or when there is progress, because I love seeing other people's houses. I'm nosey.

Doesn't your husband have a say in that?? Clearly they know the numbers are skyrocketing!
Are you taking the kids when they get back? So you'll need to force them to quarantine?

TR, is he able to find another job easily and is he willing to do that before quitting or is he just done? Are these things he hates about his job new since the pandemic? Will things improve in the future or is this just the job?

You're government too, right? I swear we are our own worst enemy. Legal is definitely the biggest issue at my command, we NEVER get stuff back when they say they will, and it's even worse this time of year when everyone is trying to burn use or lose leave.
maudefindlay they are technically my step-kids, but I generally just refer to them as "my kids" or "the kids"
missmissy234 Technically, he doesn't really have a say, their custody agreement just says that the other parent has to be notified and apprised of travel plans if the kids are being taken out of state. They aren't supposed to be back at our house until a week after they get back, but I've asked H to tell her that she'll need to keep them an extra week.

Yes, probably, but he's also, I think, hoping to grow the new business he started instead of finding another "real" job. He is pretty much done. He's been wanting to quit for a long time, probably at least a year, it's definitely not the pandemic. If anything, being able to work from home has helped him hang on longer. And it's just the job. It's a PE-owned company that isn't doing well and he's been frustrated for a while (since they got a new CEO, H is the CTO/CIO) at the way it's being run and the fact that he's being asked to do more and more with less and less. The leadership team has had a lot of turnover in the past couple of years and that's not helping either.

No travel restrictions for your state by chance? Definitely would have them quarantine with her. That is messed up. Who would choose to travel to Fl under the name of fun right now?

They actually just implemented travel restrictions yesterday that beginning this Friday, if you travel out of state you have to Quarantine for 14 days if you don't have proof of a negative test result. I'm hoping she both gets them all tested and quarantines for at least 7 days. Our schools also just switched to all virtual for the week before and after Thanksgiving, but even once they reopen it will have been less than 14 days from when they get back, and she works at the school.
LOL, maudefindlay, there isn't much to look at but this is the current state, more or less. The house was built in 1981 and we've bene able to find three different wallpapers under molding and other stuff that has been ripped out.
Looking toward the laundry room (the refrigerator is in a temporary location - it goes on the far yellow wall). All the ceiling lights are being reworked as well.
Looking toward the sunroom. The back area with the plastic is open shelves right now (had been a desk in the 80s) and will be a coffee bar.

Yes! I remember someone early in my career saying we were going to make contracting too difficult to do and man if he wasn't right.
