What did you read this week and did anything stand out? What are you currently reading?
QOTW: A lot of people have been cooking/baking more this past year. Is there anything new this year that you've baked or cooked that turned out really well?
My reading has slowed down this week but I read and enjoyed The Son of Good Fortune by Lysley Tenorio. I started but haven't gotten hooked on The Once and Future Witches. I might have to save it for another time.
QOTW: I've definitely cooked a lot more but nothing that was out of the norm from what we would normally make. We had tres leches cake with our curbside Thanksgiving meal and now I've made it my mission to make my own version. It might be my new favorite dessert.

Wow, No Thank You. by Samantha Irby - 4. Parts felt very relatable, especially the chapter about homeownership.
House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III (audio) - 3. This took me a long time to listen to as an audiobook- I think because it was just so depressing, I never felt forward to listening to it.
QOTW: We* made French onion chicken the other night and it turned out really good. We also made a Korean ground beef recipe which was good.
*We in this context refers to DH, since he is the one who cooks- I just find the recipes for him.
I’m reading A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas, which is the first in the Lady Sherlock mystery series. I like it but have not had much time this week to get very far. I can’t remember who recommended this series — was it someone here?
QOTW: I haven’t really felt like trying much new this year. Mostly sticking to things that I know we like and will turn out well.
I’m reading Followers. It’s...interesting, and a bit uncomfortable. I finished A Woman is No Man, excellent. Started listening to Evie Drake Starts over and liking it so far.
I had the book Vintage Cakes on my to read list forever and finally checked it out from the library. It is great! I made a chocolate Bundt cake that was not too sweet and really easy and good. Only glitch was that it wouldn’t come out of the pan despite my heavy spray. I will make something else out of there as soon as I get a chance.

Tres Leches is what I ask for on my birthday. DH makes it

Does your DH use a family recipe or something easily searchable on the web? I’ve started googling recipes but I haven’t bookmarked anything yet.
I finished Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker 2.5* and The Love Story of Missy Carmichael by Beth Morrey, 5*. Hidden Valley Road didn't live up to my expectations and The Love Story of Missy Carmichael far exceeded my expectations. I'm currently reading Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton.
QOTW: I haven't been cooking/baking any more than usual, but my kids have been. They participated in a virtual cooking class for a while and they really enjoyed it. They made some really good things, unfortunately we moved and changed time zones and it doesn't work out with our schedule anymore. I don't think there was anything that the kids made that they didn't like, but they made me promise to keep the churro, scones, and pretzels recipes.
Maybe You Should Talk to Somebody by Lori Gottlieb. I read it because several posters here enjoyed it, and I can see why. It was a good book.
The Yellow House by Sarah Broom. DNF. I quit at page 25 because I was already screaming inside my head for the author to STFU. May be the fastest I've ever given up on a book.
Currently reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, which is really good and so much more than I bargained for.
QOTW: I can't think of anything specific, but I cook for a group of Buddhist monks every week. This year a vegan monk joined the community, so I've had a lot of fun experimenting with vegan cooking. I've gotten pretty good at it, if I may say so myself!

travella how hands on did you have to be with the virtual lessons? My kids are 8 and last year for DD's 7th birthday we took them to see Master Chef Junior live after watching a few seasons of the show. They then started asking for cooking lessons...but I don't know if I have the patience for it at home...

My kids are 8 and 10. My 10 year old was pretty independent; I only had to answer questions here and there when she was confused about something. My 8 year old, on the other hand, I had to help a little more, usually helping him get caught back up with the class from time to time.
Yesterday I finished When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole. Absolutely loved this one.
I'm still listening to Obama's book. It's almost 30 hours long and I am 40% through. Unfortunately it was only a 2 week loan and there is no way I will finish by Tuesday. Hopefully I can get it again fairly quickly.
QOTW: I am not a baker so no sourdough madness here. I did manage to make a decent focaccia though.
I finished book 5 in The Killers series. I liked the first four, but I realized that I’m not a fan of 3rd tier characters getting their own books without enough story. I miss the original characters that started the series.
Currently reading His and Hers. It’s pretty bad, so I should DNF. It reminds me of the Woman in the Window, but no dead spouse. Very annoying with all the inner dialogue of characters that are insufferable.
QOTW: I’m just lucky to throw dinner together 5x a week. I keep telling DH and the kid to stop using plates! So much running the dishwasher.
