I wanted to buy them but no stores around me sold them! And since they’re quite fragile I was hesitant to ship.
As H was watching me he said, “why didn’t you just find a place to buy these things?” 🤣
Come in the city. Scoop de Ville has them!
EDIT - oh! Yours looks really good.
I saw them! If it were the olden days I’d send H since he works down there but neither of us have been in the city since mid-March 😳 Crazy to think about.
I have the silicone molds, mini dehydrated marshmallows, a few different types of chocolate, some sprinkles, and finally found where the hot cocoa mix was hiding in the pantry.
I guess I just need to stop procrastinating and just do it already.

I made a few a couple weeks ago. I used high quality chocolate shipped to the US from Belgium. I tempered the chocolate and added hot chocolate mix and mini marshmallows. My kids and I taste tested one last week and it was delicious. If you use the chocolate melting wafers you are most likely to get sludge in the bottom of the cup. You need a good chocolate that melts well. I got my molds from Amazon. I ordered over a month ago and they just arrived from China. In the meantime I checked with my local candy store and they had a couple that I bought there too. I sealed the two halves my dipping one half in the chocolate and sticking together. Then I covered the seam by rolling in sprinkles.

Do hot chocolate bombs taste good or are they just pretty? I was thinking of grabbing some from our local ice cream place but I’m not convinced they even taste good.
I think it depends on the quality of the chocolate, any other flavorings added to it, and what else is in them besides mix.
I ordered some from a local specialty bakery and my kids thought they were awesome. The flavors were regular chocolate, peppermint and white chocolate-caramel -- the last one especially smelled delicious.
They do seem to make super-chocolatey hot chocolate, because there's actual melted chocolate in there. How well everything dissolves seems to be dependent on the thickness (these were VERY thick, more like cupcakes than the round, thin-shelled ones) and the temperature of the milk. So at some points my kids were scraping up spoonfuls of melted chocolate and they were all about it.
It took me a long time to realize this is why I could not find Swiss Miss at Target for pickup - I assume people are buying it all to make these. I just wanted some for the sake of having some.

My Target was all out of it too! And the mini marshmallows. But both were plentiful next door at Giant.

So, what do you mean by “tempered the chocolate?”
Clearly, I’m out of my league here. Lol.
I think it means you have to melt the chocolate without going above 90 degrees. It’s what gives the chocolate a crisp break and a smooth, shiny color. I used this tutorial.

I make this all the time, and I cannot imagine going to all this trouble to make these bombs when regular hot cocoa is so good, but you guys do you lol.

Ohh I may make this for myself since I don't like anything with added sugar, but I miss having hot cocoa. Thanks!

I tried one last night for the first time - it was a gift. The experience was neat, but I think the base was white chocolate (the bomb was "grinch green") and I hate white chocolate. I also don't like marshmallows, cocoa powder, or packaged hot choco mix. I'd be willing to try it again if made with different ingredients. :-)
Ha, I guess I've only had hot chocolate I like twice in my life. Once was in Chicago, and the other time was at my H's annual t-giving gathering (which was canceled this year). His aunt makes the delicious kind in the crockpot that actually tastes like melted chocolate.

We always make our own! That’s why I had to buy the mix. This is more for the novelty and magic for the little one and an older kid who’s obsessed with Tik Tok trends.

This is my go-to homemade hot chocolate. It is the best. Their chocolate cake recipe (on the cocoa can) is great too.

When did these become a thing? I see them mentioned all over FB, but I had never heard of them until this month. At first, I thought they were chocolate smelling bath bombs. Has this been a thing for awhile? Is this my first moment of being so old I am out of it? (41).

I've been seeing them come through my news feed for the past few months from tiktok, Instagram, blogs, etc..
I first saw a version of them last January, in a Hallmark movie. A chef at a resort in Vail made them with gold flakes inside. I think it was a real chef, not an actor.

I’ve been seeing them for at least 2 years. I bought one for dd last year. It was fun but once was enough for the novelty of it for us.

This looks like way too much work for hot chocolate.
Maybe I’m cheap but I think it’s also too expensive for what it is. A local person i follow sells for $7.50. They are filled Swiss miss and made with Ghirardelli and other items found at Target. Ugh nope. You could get a high quality drinking chocolate made for you and ready to go for that price.
LOLOLOLOL! The point is to have it go in a mug. You’ll have to put that thing in a mixing bowl! (It looks cool though)
I’m a Hershey’s homemade girl too, but I do use a little less sugar.
Yes, I’ve made plenty of small mug sized ones, this is a “family” size one and it’ll go in the crock pot. My kids will get a big kick out of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d smash a mixing bowl of hot chocolate! I think that it looks really awesome. I’m just not crafty like that! Hope your kiddos enjoy that! Slurp!
I made four today. I didn't get the chocolate tempered right, and it took me two tries to get it right, (the first were too thin and broke so I threw them back into the pot), but I think I figured it out.
They were all for DH, who is very picky about his chocolate...organic dark chocolate, organic dark cocoa (not too sweet), and he doesn't care if they are imperfect. If I make them for the neighbors I want them to look better though.

I was going to skip this trend, but we always do cocoa Christmas morning and our local ice cream place has normal “nice” ones and then special “naughty” ones with alcohol in them.
So I went ahead and snagged some. We don’t usually do food fads, so I don’t mind splurging on these this year.

I always make my own hot cocoa mix. It is great! I'm still going to try make the bombs. LOL
