Trying to keep this board alive!
My mom decided not to come up from Bonney Lake for Thanksgiving, but she will come for Christmas. That gave me a perfect excuse to furnish the guest room! Found a queen size bed for a steal, and pre-ordered a bed in a bag and everything. If she bails at the last minute (which she is wont to do) I'll kill her!
She'd asked about reviving an old Christmas Eve tradition from when I was kid, which is basically a deli platter for dinner. Crudites and olives and pickles, maybe some salmon spread for my dad. And rolls to make little sammies. Because I must be extra, I decided we'd upgrade to a charcuterie board. Same stuff, but salamis and more fancy cheeses. YUM. Jesse will make brownies and I'll make my (soon to be famous) brown butter blondies.
For Christmas dinner we'll do some steaks and baked potatoes, and I'm going to pop a pineapple upside-down cake in the oven right before dinner. I've never had it for Christmas dinner before, but this is a tradition I can totally get behind. I bought a mini angel food cake tin a while ago, and I think it'll make great mini pineapple cakes!
@@@ I'm a notorious X-mas grinch, but this year I'm excited to celebrate with DS. It sucks that his first X-mas is during the pandemic, but I'm hoping we can come up with some fun new traditions we can continue with him as a family.
We'll be at home and will be Zooming with extended family for a little while earlier in the day. We're getting all takeout for our meal - broccoli cheddar quiche, roasted yams, cranberry cheesecake, and something else that I'm forgetting.

It's just us this year. I sent gifts via Amazon to my family so that's done. We're planning on some simple meals that are super tasty but don't involve a ton of work since we'd like to just relax.
It's my last day of work until Monday, and then I'm off again until 1/4. Whee!
I made cookies and fudge last night. Today is millionaire's shortbread (my favorite!).
@@@ Kids have been at my in-laws since Saturday and it's been nice to have a quiet house for a bit. They come home today!
