I need some decent eyeliner. I currently use some cheap stuff from Target (a twist up pencil from almay, I think?) It looks awesome for about 1 hour, then fades and makes my under eye area look tired and dark.
Should i be using a different type (liquid, etc)? Any recs for a good eyeliner? Preferably something fairly idiot proof?
There are a lot of great liner options out there that won't fade or smudge the way you're describing. You'll see a lot of recommendations for the Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liners for precisely this reason. This is a great time of year to try out new products because so many brands offer gift sets that will give you quite a few products at a greatly reduced price. Urban Decay has two liner sets right now (Ocho Loco, which is very colorful, and Smoked, which is more neutral) that would be a good place to start.
FWIW, I prefer pencil and gel liners to liquid. You have to have a really steady hand to apply liquid correctly, and unlike a pencil you can't smudge away mistakes with liquid.
Hey, I'm new here, but what about setting your liner with shadow? When I use us primer potion, plus liner and set with shadow it stays on all day and I have el-cheapo liner.
Use an eye primer. I like Urban Decay brand, but several have worked for me. I can't use the UD 24/7--it doesn't actually last well and has too much glitter.
I like Loreal HIP creme liner, the Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner (easy to apply--like a felt tip marker), or Sephora brand creme liner. You need to buy a decent brush for either of the creme liners--one that comes to a fine point is good.

on one of the boards (either MM or ML, can't remember which) someone mentioned tight lining with gel eyeliner. I am grateful that they did b/c I just tried it and it's great (the technique, they were suggesting bobbi brown gel eyeliner - I can't afford to try a technique with that expensive stuff). I could never get my eyeliner to look 'real' - it always looked fake and wrong - but this method/technique really helps my eyes to look more defined without looking fake and over done.
