I have a lot of vents because I am not a morning person essentially.
1. I love my kids teachers, but the eLearning holiday party with a list of 15 supplies is killing me. Also the supply list has changed 3 times, so I am not even sure if the items I ran out to buy are still needed and last minute she added a holiday sweater which my kids do not own. So they are wearing their holiday PJ's, but holiday sweater is listed twice this week, so now I get to wash the PJ's on Tuesday and get them ready for Wednesday because DD is wearing them today also. Another thing on the list is lunch, so anyway I am not providing lunch at 8 am, so I hope she gives them time to make lunch during the party. Thank God for my nanny because eLearning has me about to lose my mind, and I'm not even the one doing it. I had to exchange Chromebooks 3 times in 2 weeks because they all suck.
2. My boss is retiring- (cries)
Celebrations
1. We had a great day yesterday walking around Chicago. It was 44 and sunny, and we had our Tesla rental which we have returned now. 2. My family is coming to visit in January. I am hoping it will work out OK since our numbers peaked in mid November, and are now coming back down.
Funny Annoyances
I have a friend that we are no longer friends, but not enemies. I don't know how to explain it except to say there are times when she is nice and times when she is not nice. So anyway she posted about being annoyed a dog barked and someone clapped back about Karma since she also has dogs and apparently let them bark even though she claimed she didn't. I just thought that was hilarious because she airs a lot of dirty laundry on FB and then got clapped back about it. I don't get the point of airing dirty laundry on FB honestly. It's passive aggressive because it doesn't say she actually talked to the people about their dog.
Then someone else replies and all the crazy stuff happens to her and she has no problem telling everyone about it. I feel for their problems, but they don't look at their own actions ever- it's always that they are the victim rather than addressing decision making issues. It's just a LOT.
DS has what's probably a cold. Yesterday afternoon he put himself in bed and napped/stared at the ceiling for about 3 hours. Today he's cheered up, but still has a cough..
We are waiting for the doctor to call us back, which is annoying. The advice nurse should have just ordered us a covid test. Because he's not getting back into daycare without either a negative covid test or 72 hours symptom free AND a doctor's note. No doctor in their right mind will write a note saying no covid without a covid test.
DD is pissed. She spent last week whining that she had to go to daycare even though school was out and she wanted to stay home.. and now that she has to stay home? She's spent the morning ugly crying that she can't go to daycare.
Oh yeah, Comcast was supposed to come out on Friday for their second attempt at installing internet, since their first attempt they found out they didn't have the infrastructure to our house.. anyways.. they didn't show up. So hopefully the third attempt tomorrow is the charm?

k3am, your DD has the truest kid reaction ever. My youngest whined and moaned about going to school for weeks because her older sister stayed home or went to her grandparents to do remote work. They closed early because of community spread and .... cue meltdown.

My vent: I have three days left of work and I’m trying to write my reports annual reviews. Three of my staff had their ratings altered by “up the chain” and I was told to edit my draft to reflect those ratings. Sometimes I feel I’m stuck in a Dilbert cartoon.
No tests available until tomorrow. Soooooooooooo looks like both kids are home all week.. thankfully things should be slow on the work front. I hope. I could probably just put it in as vacation, but it seems silly to waste a vacation day on a day I can just phone it in...
waverly, I've also been frantically washing holiday pajamas for school. I know the kids love it, but spirit week ideas that just create more laundry? Not what we all need right now.
In related news - Hanna Anderson holiday pjs are AMAZING. I never spend much on kid clothes, we're more of a Target level, but beau's sister sent some for all of us so we can all match them in our family zoom call. I'm obsessed with the quality and afraid to research prices.
I think today I'm treating myself to new jewelry. I've wanted a mother's ring for a few years now, but my birthstone is a ruby and the girls are emeralds and I just haven't been able to find a style that doesn't look cheesy and Christmas-y when you put those together. A local jeweler in town is having a half off sale on all estate jewelry in stock and he has a really cool antique emerald and diamond ring. I'm going to go look and probably buy it for myself this afternoon.
twinmomma - Hannah Andersson stuff is AMAZING. It can be pricey, but it lasts forever. I think they’ve closed most brick and mortar stores but I used to get great deals at the outlet. It was an overstock outlet, so not like made-for-outlet clothes. Their sales are good, and they show up on Zulily now and then. My kids wear the underwear and I don’t know what I will do when DD1 sizes out of them.
I love their PJ, leggings, and shorts. The shirts run too short for my kids who are all torso. We get multiple seasons out of the PJs by buying a little big. They wash great and wear great. My kids are very hard on clothes and I’ve been able to hand stuff down that I received used!
Extra complaint.. DD just realized that she's going to miss out on the holiday performance they were scheduled to record for her class tomorrow. The world is ending.
Weekend was good. It poured all weekend which made staying home super easy. We made a crap ton of cookies over the weekend. DD made all the batter and helped roll and stuff but the baking is still my job. I'm tired but she got her boxes put together to give away.
Winter break started. So far DD is coloring and watching the Repair Shop on Netflix and I really don't care. Her zoom workout looks like it will be switched to 10am instead of 4pm for the break. 10am seems to be super early in the mind of a bunch of pre-teen and teenagers if how my phone has been blowing up indicates.
Christmas Vacation maybe wasn't the best choice to watch with the kids last night. We watch it every year and we must have missed all the swearing in the past so DD1 was shocked. I guess she's old enough to understand what swear words are now!?
We went to look at pet options for DD1 and DD2. Somehow we ended up bringing home two guinea pigs. I guess they're like potato chips and you can't have just one. I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. They seem super sweet and the girls love them.
mellym, we did Christmas Vacation with the kids a couple weeks ago. I totally didn't think about it. Not ideal for a 4 year old. DS's favorite part was "when the lady took off her bathing suit because it was so inappropriate."
Side note.. the fact that your DD made it past the age of 1 without understanding swear words is impressive.
If you’re looking for Christmas movies with the kids, we watched Noel last year (Disney +) and we LOVED it! Then last night we watched Jingle Jangle on Netflix and it was a really fun watch. Great music and dancing. Kids loved it.
I watched Elf with DD2 - that was a lot of fun. She missed a lot and asked for explanations, but I loved when they talked about the rumors that parents were Santa. She rolled her eyes and was like “Come on, the parents?! Oh, like YOU do all THAT?” I wholeheartedly agreed with her.
ETA - if anyone watches Jingle Jangle, I’d love feedback. I guess DD2 mentioned it at school and her teacher told her it was “inappropriate”. I can only assume she was thinking of Jingle All The Way, because I was really looking for something questionable and found absolutely nothing.
mae0111, We LOVED Jingle Jangle. The girls love musicals and they were all about the music and dancing in this one. It was such a fun, different Christmas story too. I can't think of anything that was inappropriate in it... The teacher must be thinking of Jingle All The Way instead.
I'm so glad to be done with work for the rest of the year, but now my anxiety is ramped up because it feels like there is so much to do before Christmas. So I mailed some packages, dropped off some donations, and finished Xmas shopping (I think) today.
All that's left to do is finish crocheting a blanket for my mom.
My celebration for the day: I booked a weekend at a nearby cabin for DH and me in mid January. My kids will stay with my parents. It is an xmas gift for DH. I am so freaking excited to get away for a little bit. My anxiety has already decreased just thinking about it!

This is more of a random. We have 3 families we bubble with - the older kids are 3 boys + 1 girl, they are all in the same class in school as well. The two other boy moms mentioned that all the kids think that my DS have a crush on the girl. I've never put much thought into it. But today we all went skiing together and my DS and the girl pretty much stuck to the two of them the entire morning. I flip flop between thinking "aww it's so cute" to "oh I hope other kids don't make fun of them too much". They are 8.
Thanks for the Christmas movie recs! We’ll try those.
Just put the little boys down for nap and need to motivate myself to do some work.
Looking at y post, I undersold Jingle Jangle. We all had so much fun. DH tends not to like musicals unless he has actually played the music himself. He was said he really liked it. Kids were engaged and talking about the characters, and definitely moving to the music.
I dislike my colleagues some days. We have a really big grant proposal due, and they guy in charge wants all our drafts by the night of the 22nd, which is fine. So that in his words we can all wake up to a new draft of the grant proposal in our stockings on Christmas morning, to read and revise.
I just fell in my driveway. It was a sheet of black ice and my legs went completely out from under me and I landed square on my tailbone. Also tried to stop myself so got my left hand down. So my back, wrist, butt, and hips are all throbbing.
I was like a turtle on my back. DH had to come and help me up. Luckily DD1 was with me and ran in to get him. I didn’t have my phone or anything.
I don’t think I broke anything. If I did, there’s nothing anyone can do anyway. Such bad timing...
Oh No mae0111! I ate it on DD’s skateboard last weekend. Luckily I fell on my left thigh, where I have plenty of padding, and my left elbow, the least important of my major joints a couple days of ibuprofen did the trick, and I hope it does for you too!
It was such a weird day. I’m still telling people I’m leaving. Everyone so far has been awesome. I think the transition will be smooth. And people at my new company have started reaching out through LinkedIn so I feel very welcomed there. My new boss already set up time on my calendar my first day to start onboarding. It’s all so nice and civilized.

My DD (2nd grade) and my H watched it. My H thought it was great and nothing inappropriate.

We are halfway through jingle jangle and it’s been totally fine so far.
mae0111, Hope you're not too sore today! Beau had the bright idea to go down the fastest twisty slide at the playground with the kids the other day when we were sledding. He launched out like a rocket and landed flat on his back, wind knocked out of him. He is still hurting. I was half worried, half laughing hysterically when it happened.

My older DD (almost 12, 6th grade) is BFFs with a boy in her grade. Our families are close and we vacation together, hang out on weekends, etc. They have a daughter the same age as DD2 and they are also besties. They still sleep over at our house and it’s really just a friendship...and the other kids at school don’t make fun of them. I have high hopes this continues because I love their friendship.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
