We are finally having our house painted in February (super delayed due to covid), including ceilings, so I need to choose lighting to be installed while the scaffolding is up. I’ve looked at a lot, to the point that I’m just overwhelmed. I don’t normally have this level of decision paralysis but this fixture is difficult to switch out due to it’s location so I want to be happy with it on the first try.
Our foyer isn’t exactly a foyer, it’s technically a stair hall (you can see the foyer beyond, it’s one-story ceiling height, game room is above it). The current fixture has 8 lights but that seems like overkill considering that it’s just the stairs in that area and there is a wall fixture on the landing mid-way up the stairs.
I’m really unsure about size, shape, number of lights. Any thoughts?

Any clues as to your style, other fixtures you have, a few fixtures you like? I would honestly go with something super glitzy in such a dramatic space but it's probably not for everyone.
For that much space, it needs to be fairly large in my opinion. I would also want to have at least 3 bulbs to project enough light. I would not go lower than that or the space will be too dim, and I would not be happy on a stairway.
I’m definitely looking for no glass. In addition to being impossible to clean, it will make it much easier to change bulbs. The house is pretty much just transitional. This whole area will be painted SW Sea Salt and it reads blue/green, less grey, in large swatches in the space.
It’s a tricky spot because it’s high but not actually a large area. I definitely need at least 4 lights but I don’t think I need 8. I do need the fixture to be rather tall. I’ve eyed some open cage lanterns, too, and think I’d need to go pretty large on those since they are not visually weighty.
The living room (where the picture is from) has a fan with lights. We will be getting a new fan. We live in Houston, a fan is a must. The game room will get the same fan.

My family room is sw sea salt and you wouldn't believe the number of compliments I've gotten on it - my contractor even thought it was a custom color. I think it will look great in your room.

Our old house (6 years ago!) was Comfort Gray and people went crazy over it. We've had a hard time choosing a color for this house so I kept putting it off. It seemed weird to do a similar color scheme but we really loved it. Our tile doesn't lend itself to anything grey and the neutrals that work with it are too beige for my taste. It seems rare to see a color in a house with 2 story ceilings but we are going to go for it. Sea Salt & Comfort Gray act as neutrals for the most part, anyway.
We have the Aura in our entry way and one similar to this cascading light in our hallway by the stairs. Both would look great in your area but are very modern in style.
